Description of the walk

Start from the car park near the church.

PR® marked in yellow.

(S/E) From the car park, head towards the church to admire the triumphal arch, then with your back to the churchyard, take the D163 to leave the village.

Turn left onto the first street running alongside the Goarem Vanel housing estate and arrive at a junction in Kerneyet. Turn right twice, follow the small road uphill, pass two large sheds and arrive at a three-way junction.

(1) Take the hairpin bend to the left and follow the north-east-bound road, then turn right at the sign for the climbing site. Follow this wide path lined with willows and pines up to the fitness trail.

(2) Turn right onto a path under the pines, which is barely visible at first. Climb slightly and continue, on the right, along the firebreak created following the 2006 fire, then head towards the menhir in the pine forest.

(3) Continue along the path through the pines to emerge onto a wide forest track opposite the VVF Holiday Village. Turn left and follow the fitness trail due east. Take a first turn left then right, cutting across a cross-path, and continue straight ahead along the stony track to reach the Ar C'hléguer Braz climbing rocks, made of Armorican sandstone used as a climbing site.

(4) Go round the site to the left through the pine trees and heather to reach a firebreak.

(5) Take this path on the left, which descends in a straight line, and at the next junction, turn left then further down to the right to go round Ar C'hléguer Bihan, another rock formation.

Pass close to the Sainte-Agnès Spring, whose waters are now channelled, and reach a local road.

(6) Turn left and follow this small road until you reach the entrance to the hamlet of Goareman Abat on your left.

(7) At the crossroads, turn right and head down this wide farm track, which first turns right then left before continuing straight on towards the D60.

(8) Turn left and follow this main road towards the village, taking the opportunity to visit the churchyard and the church before returning to the nearby car park (S/E).

Good start from the church square in Argol, then drizzle sets in and turns to rain. To top it all off, we cross a lunar landscape: Storm Ciaran has destroyed the wooded areas.
It was impossible to see more than three hundred metres ahead in the weather.
We ended up soaked and disappointed not to have enjoyed a hike that promised so much more.
Such are the vagaries of the Breton weather...
We will definitely do it again when the conditions are better.

We’d planned a walk in the woods because of the heat, but imagine our surprise
the local woodland has suffered from deforestation and, to make matters worse, tracked vehicles have torn up the paths
not really recommended at the moment;

This walk is a bit of a let-down in two respects:

  1. The start from Argol is rather uninteresting, with tarmac roads and residential areas; start at point 2;
  1. Unfortunately, things get tough from there: Storm Ciaran in November 2023 completely devastated the forest, so there are no longer any passable paths, including what remains of the fitness trail. There’s still a nice view, but the reality is a sad one...

A pleasant walk through the woods.
A short damp stretch between points 4 and 5
Bring a GPS as it’s not always easy to find your way in the forest.
