Description of the walk

Start from the church in Roz-sur-Couësnon (car park).

(S/E) From the church porch, go round the building to the left, turn left, then take the first left again onto Rue de Malchat. Turn right just after the cemetery.

(1) Take the path that starts to the left of the guardhouse; this building once housed a small garrison responsible for defending the coast. Continue along this path; at the fork, turn right and head towards the road leading down to the hamlet of La Poultière.

(2) Turn into the first lane on the left in the hamlet, then turn left again onto Impasse Pinet. The street becomes a sunken lane. When you reach a crossroads, take the small road opposite.
After about 400 m, turn onto a path on the right. Follow this down to the hamlet of La Bédelière.

(3) Cross the D797 and take the small road leading downhill almost directly opposite. At the junction, turn right, then take the first road on the right and the first track on the left. At the end of this track, continue to the right until you reach the Voie Verte, a path on a tree-lined embankment.

(4) Follow the Voie Verte to the right towards the east for 3 km. After the farms at Palluel and then La Saline, turn left onto theGR® 34. Continue northwards to the dyke separating the salt marshes from the cultivated polders.

(5) Turn right onto the dyke and stay on this path as you approach Mont-Saint-Michel and then head up the Couësnon estuary. Leave the path by turning left at the dam.

(6) The dam, which regulates the flow of water to prevent the estuary from narrowing and to maintain the sea around Mont-Saint-Michel, allows you to cross the Couesnon and reach the Normandy side (and eventually Mont-Saint-Michel).
To continue the walk, do not cross it but stay on the Breton side and take the path that follows the river up the bank before veering off to the right.

(7) At the end of the path, at the Moidrey farm, cross the road and take the grassy path that runs alongside the farm on the left. Turn left at the first junction. You will then rejoin the Voie Verte, which you will follow for 2.5 km until you reach the La Rue farm.

(8) At the crossroads, turn sharply left to reach the hamlet of La Rue. Cross the D797, take the road opposite, then turn into the first lane on the right, which quickly turns into a track. At the crossroads, head up the small road on the left.

(9) On the road at the top of the hill, turn right, then take the first left. At the first bend, take the path on the right. After 200 m, turn left; the path leads to a pond. Go round it on the right and turn right towards the housing estates. At the wash house, continue left to return to the church car park (S/E).

A lovely, peaceful walk with stunning views of Mont Saint-Michel. Very easy to follow. If you want to make it a bit shorter, it’s easy to take a shortcut.

Completed today using the mobile app, which was essential on a few sections...
Thank you for this exceptional route! There’s not much to fault on this trail; the views of the Mont are superb and the rest of it is absolutely brilliant, and best of all, I didn’t meet a soul, as everything is designed to ensure you avoid ending up with the hordes of tourists flooding towards the MSM.

WARNING: just before checkpoint 3, the path crosses a small plot of land with cows, which is fenced off with wire... I had to go under it at my own risk. Second point to watch out for, and by no means the least: on the section running alongside Moidrey Cove, and up to the farm of the same name, you follow a path reserved for hunters, and the least one can say is that gunshots are quite frequent...

Conclusion: Even if you struggle a bit with the climb over the last few kilometres, and even if there are a few tricky sections, I highly recommend this beautiful walk.
