Departure from the village of Rieutort d'Aubrac. Park if possible around the square where there is a chapel and a stone drinking trough. If there is no space, park in the (larger) car park at the foot of the church in Marchastel and start the hike at the point (1).
(S/E) Head south, leaving the watering trough on your right, and take the road towards Marchastel (a variant ofthe GR®65). Follow this quiet little road, keeping your eyes on the hill overlooking Marchastel with its distinctive shape. Enter Marchastel, pass a mission cross on your left and arrive at the cemetery next to the church.
(1) Continue south on the road and, after a few dozen metres, take thefirst left at the corner of the "castle". At the crossroads that you will soon come to, turn right. At a small square, take the path on the left and climb the Motte with a few short hairpin bends.
(2) Retrace your steps back to the church and cemetery in Marchastel.
(1) Take a path marked in blue on the left (west) and walk along the cemetery on your right. The path descends between stone walls to the D900. Follow the road to the right for about 200 metres.
(3) Take a path that branches off to the right between low walls towards Puech del Pont. Climb north-northeast up the side of the hill.
(4) Leave the path between the low walls and climb up the meadows on the left that lead to the summit of Puech del Pont (superb panorama).
(5) Retrace your steps.
(4) Continue west along the path between the low walls and descend to a small road.
(6) Follow the road to the right with theGR®65(red and white markings). This will take you back to Rieutort d'Aubrac (S/E).
