This is the third stage of a four-stage circuit in Aubrac. You will follow most of the GR®65 (Chemin de Compostelle) in the opposite direction. A slight detour from the GR®65 is recommended so that you can admire the Cascade du Déroc waterfall.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Four days in Aubrac on a loop starting from Le Buisson

Description of the walk

Departure from Place de l'Église in Nasbinals.

(S) Follow Rue Principale (D987), going around the Romanesque church on the left. At the crossroads, continue straight on the D987 and walk along Place du Foirail. Pass by the bust of Pierre Brioude, known as Pierrounet, and you will immediately come to a crossroads.

(1) Turn right onto the D900 towards Montgrousset, then immediately onto a path on the right (yellow markings). At the end, go around the cemetery on the left, rejoin the D900 and follow it to the right for about 50 metres.

(2) Take the first small road on the right, along the cemetery. At the fork shortly after, turn right onto a stabilised path (GR®670 + yellow markings towards the Déroc waterfall).

(3) When the stabilised path turns sharply to the left, take a dirt track on the right (GR®670 and yellow markings). At the next junction, turn right.

(4) At the intersection at the end of the left-hand bend, turn right again. Pass a pond on your left and you will arrive at the Déroc car park.

(5) Leave the car park on your right, cross the road and continue along the path opposite, which descends towards the Déroc waterfall. When you reach the waterfall (you can go off the beaten track and pass under a wooden barrier to get closer or take a path that leads to the foot of the waterfall).

(6) Continue along the path and leave the Grange du Déroc on your left. At the T-junction, turn right onto a path that descends.

(7) At the bottom, you will come to a track. Follow it to the left (GR®670 and yellow markings). Stay on this main track, pass a farm and join the D900.

(8) Cross the road carefully and follow the small road opposite that crosses the hamlet of Montgrousset. Go around a hill (Lou Puech) on the left.

(9) At the crossroads, follow the GR®65 to the right (Chemin de Compostelle, to be followed until the end of the stage) and cross the village of Montgros. At the fork located shortly after a car park at the foot of a large building on the right-hand side, turn right. At the next crossroads, go straight ahead.

(10) Shortly before a right-hand bend, leave the road and take a stabilised path on the left, descending slightly. Join the D900, follow it to the left and cross the old bridge over the Bès.

(11) At the end of the bridge, turn left onto a smaller road that goes uphill. Pass at the foot of Puech del Pont and continue straight ahead on this small road until you reach Rieutort d'Aubrac.

(12) Cross this beautiful hamlet along the main street (Route du Bès), going straight ahead at first, then turning left at an old drinking trough and a restored old bread oven (picnic tables). Continue along the main street and leave the hamlet, heading north-east.

(13) Turn right onto a stabilised path (GR®65).

(14) At a fork, bear left. Further on, the path turns right, then left.

(15) Make a very short detour to the left towards an unusually shaped orientation table (a ring planted in the ground).

(15) Continue east-northeast on the GR®65. Cross a stream and ignore a few paths on the left.

(16) At a three-way junction, turn left and cross the hamlet of Finieyrols.

(17) At the next crossroads (stele), cross the D73 to continue on the small road opposite (GR®65). Leave Ferluc on your left and rejoin a stabilised path.

(18) At a fork, take the leftmost path, marked GR®65.

(19) At an intersection, continue straight ahead on the GR®65.

(20) Cross a small road to take the path opposite.

(21) At an intersection, continue straight ahead on the GR®65. Cross a stream and join the D987 further on.

(22) Follow this road to the right. After about 150 m, when it turns left, continue straight ahead on a smaller road. Cross a perpendicular road and you will immediately arrive at the Lodge des Quatre Chemins (E).
