Panoramic view of Pointe du Roselier

With a 360° view of Saint-Brieuc Bay, the Pointe du Roselier is a must-see viewpoint. The entire bay, stretching all the way to the end of the Anse d’Yffiniac – a designated National Nature Reserve – unfolds before your eyes. This breathtaking view has made the headland a strategic site since the Iron Age. From here, one could scan the horizon to defend against threats or communicate with sailors. Below, Martin’s Beach—a cove of rocks, pebbles and sand—is one of the local paradises for shore fishermen.

Description of the walk

(S/E) Park in the car park behind the Manoir du Roselier and head towards Rue du Roselier.

(1) Turn right onto this street, then immediately left onto Rue de la Corniche until you reach the start of a footpath.

(2) Take the path on the left; once on the path, turn immediately left onto Chemin des Douaniers to reach the memorial and the viewpoint.

The sea can sometimes be dangerous and the life of a sailor is a hard one. The three monuments standing around you were erected to honour the memory of those who went missing or perished at sea. At the entrance, boundary stones adorned with an anchor mark the site of a former 19th-century semaphore station used to communicate with ships at sea.

(3) Take the small path on your left and head up towards the memorial complex. After rejoining the Chemin des Douaniers, you are now at the tip of the Pointe du Roselier. Continue along the path, keeping to the right, until you reach the steps.

(4) After descending the steps, turn left and walk along the car park.

(5) At the corner of the car park, head up to the left along the Chemin de la Fontaine du Roselier. A few metres further on, you will find the fountain. Returning to the road, turn left to return to the starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

La Pointe du Roselier
The far end of Saint-Brieuc Bay unfolds before your eyes: a cliff-lined coast, below which lies a vast stretch of sand, Plage des Nouelles, well known to shore fishermen. A stone breakwater and a lighthouse mark the entrance to Port du Légué,the leading commercial port in the Côtes-d'Armor. Opposite, you can see the Hillion Peninsula, the heart of the Nature Reserve, and Anse d'Yffiniac, which welcomes 35,000 migratory birds every year.
With the help of the orientation board, look east to see the coastline stretching as far as the Cap d’Erquy and Cap de Fréhel; to the west, it ends at Paimpol and the Bréhat Archipelago. In total, the Bay of Saint-Brieuc boasts 30 km of coastline, with exceptional tides that rank itfifth in the world for tidal range. The water can recede by more than 7 km and rise to a height of 12 m in just 6 hours!
The horizon is vast, and you can watch the ballet of fishing boats. Indeed, the Bay of Saint-Brieuc is a treasure trove for our taste buds, particularly the scallop. It is fished from October to April under very strict regulations: twice a week and for just 45 minutes! At low tide, you can also see the mussel beds, where mussels are farmed to the east of the Hillion Peninsula.

An easy walk with little elevation gain. Stunning views of Martin Beach and Rosaires Beach (if you go a little further). There’s quite a lot of vegetation, so long trousers are recommended to avoid stinging nettles. The car park at the starting point is very easy to access.

The difficulty was more moderate than easy, with some steep climbs (not suitable for small children or pushchairs, for example). Part of the coastal path isn’t maintained, so watch out for stinging nettles around your legs – it can sometimes be tricky to make your way through the undergrowth! If you’re fit, it’s a really enjoyable walk 😉

A lovely little walk that’s even accessible in sandals (I wasn’t properly kitted out that day), though I wouldn’t recommend it as there’s a short stretch with loose stones – but it’s not dangerous. The view is magnificent. The path is very well marked.
The car park at the start is also very easily accessible by motorbike.
