West of Chilleurs-aux-Bois

This route is called "West of Chilleurs-aux-Bois - Route No. 5".

This circuit takes you on a tour of the western part of the commune and its main hamlets, starting from the centre of the village and the Lavau district: La Noue Glaçon, Le Coudray, Le Charme, L'Etang, Marcilly, Olivet, Ronville, Le Moulin de Pierre, La Fosse Aux Morts and Les Sapins. Return to the centre of the village via La Grande Gervaise.

You will pass close to the sites of two of the five grain mills that once stood in Chilleur-aux-Bois.

In Ronville, you will pass the boundary of the commune of Neuville-aux-Bois.

You will walk along the "fosse aux morts" (dead man's ditch), which reminds us that the 1870 war was very deadly in our region.

You will then reach the village and Saint-Pierre Church, a historic monument built between the13th and14th centuries.

The route is not particularly difficult and is mainly on roads.

Description of the walk

The hike starts at the Cour Gauthier, near the Saint-Pierre church, where there are numerous parking spaces along the D109.

(S/E) Head towards Gallerand and Courcy, taking the path on the right of the road. Continue until you reach a cross.

(1) At the crossroads on the left of the road, turn right into Rue des Violettes. Continue to Rue du 13 Août 1944, then turn left into Rue des Jonquilles.

(2) Take this street on the right, then left to reach the sports complex. Turn right towards the corner.

(3) Turn left and cross the complex to reach Rue du Pied Boiteux. Follow it to the right. Cross the D2152 and take Rue du Moulin towards Lavau. This is where one of the five mills of Chilleurs-aux-Bois used to stand.

(4) In Lavau, turn left towards La Noue Glaçon, where you will cross the Laye du Sud, one of the tributaries of the Œuf, which becomes the Essonne river a few kilometres further on. Continue towards Le Coudray, then straight ahead at the fork until you reach the Charme intersection.

(5) Cross the road and head towards L'Étang. Ignore the access road on the left and, at the crossroads (elevation 127), turn slightly to the right to pass Marcilly and reach some buildings.

(6) Keep going, pass Olivet to reach Ronville. The locality straddles the communes of Neuville-aux-Bois and Chilleurs-aux-Bois.

(7) Cross the D5 and Ronville, continuing straight ahead, then turn right and left. Follow the narrow road heading north-east, which runs alongside the "Moulin de Pierre", the second mill on the route. You will arrive at "Les Sapins".

(8) Turn right towards Chilleurs and the Pont de Janville.

(9) Cross the Laye du Sud again to reach the cemetery.

(10) Continue straight ahead for a few metres, turn right and return to the village, following Rue du Vivier on the right, then Rue de la Boulangère on the left, until you reach a crossroads. Before turning into the alleyway leading to the nursery school on the right, you can see the Étang de La Rouche on the left, where pairs of geese, moorhens and mallards nest, among other birds.

(11) Go down the alley on the right. Cross the D2152 road again, turning right and then left, and return to the starting point at Cour Gauthier (S/E).
