Parking is available at the exit of Ornans, at the very beginning of the D492 (Route de Saules), towards Saules.
(S/E) With your back to the Loue, walk a few steps and turn right onto the small gravel road towards Belvédère de Gougnot - Roche Lahier, marked with yellow and blue signs. As you start the climb, the road turns into a path.
(1) Halfway up the slope, in front of a cave, the path forks; continue to the right towards Gougnot-Saules, following the signs. Descend to the picnic table for the viewpoint.
(2) Then head right along the cliffs towards Saules: be careful not to confuse this with another path to Saules that leads into the woods before the viewpoint. The path becomes stony and joins another road, which you continue to climb to the right for about a hundred metres.
(3) Turn left at the next fork, towards Roche Bottine.
(4) At the fork in the hiking trail, after the small bungalows, continue straight ahead towards Roche Bottine - Ornans.
(5) Pay attention: about a hundred metres further on, opposite a sign for Saule - Bois Gougnot, leave this gravel road and take a path that descends to the left into the woods, towards Roche Bottine - Ornans. Join a wider gravel path, where you turn right. At the green sign for the protected natural area, turn left into the small clearing along the cliffs and head for the viewpoint.
(6) Turn your back on the viewpoint and head back to the gravel path and another sign for the protected natural area. Descend to the left until you reach the inverted Y-shaped junction with the next road.
(7) Go up to the right despite the yellow-blue cross.
(5) Pass the path that descends to Roche Bottine and continue for about 100 metres.
(5) Turn left towards Saules and follow the signs.
(8) Ignore the path on the right and continue straight ahead. When the trail becomes a farm track, it may be a little muddy during wet weather. Join a small tarmac road at the edge of the woods.
(9) At the first house in Saules, turn left down Rue des Rappes. Leave Chemin des Couleurs on your left and head towards Bonnevaux du Bas - Saut Chevalier. Join the D492 and follow it, turning left.
(10) Turn onto the small road on the right, continuing towards the Saut Chevalier viewpoint - Ferme de Septfontaine. Leave the access road to Moulin du Défois on your right, continue straight ahead and stop at the Saut du Chevalier viewpoint overlooking the Brême Valley. Continue for about 200 metres.
(11) Descend to Ornans via the path on the left and join the access road to Étoleux.
(12) Continue to the right until you reach the D67.
(13) Turn left to go up the departmental road. Keep left at the junction to find the car park on the left (S/E).
