Most of this hike follows the Jura Höhenweg trail. On maps, particularly OpenStreetMap (World), it is marked as "Chemin des Crêtes du Jura". At each major junction, you will find signposts with the number 5 on a green background.

The starting point for this stage is Noiraigue Station (Canton of Neuchâtel).
(S) From Noiraigue station, head south-east to the level crossing.
(1) At the level crossing, a signpost shows several directions, including "Creux du Van, le Soliat" and sticker no. 5. Cross the railway line and follow "no. 5". After about 50 metres, turn left onto Rue de l'Areuse. Cross the bridge over the Areuse and you will come to a junction with a path.
(2) Turn right, heading east, then turn south, staying on the "chemin des Crêtes du Jura". You will come to a crossroads.
(3) Turn right again and head for the Oeillons refreshment bar.
(4) Opposite the refreshment bar, follow sign no. 5 for "Creux du Van and sentier des 14 contours" and, as indicated on the sign, climb the 14 hairpin bends to finally reach the start of the Cirque du Creux du Van. Follow the cliff to the Couloir du Pharmacien.
(5) Continue along the path at the edge of the cliff until you reach the summit of Soliat (a small mound topped by a cross in a small enclosure).
(6) Leave the cliff-side path and head south to reach the summit of Soliat.
(7) Take a small path heading west-northwest to rejoin the Crêtes du Jura trail.
(8) Turn left onto trail no. 5 and follow it to the La Baronne restaurant.
(9) Continue on the "Jura Höhenweg" no. 5 towards the south-west.
(10) Turn right, pass the Rougemonne farm on your left and you will come to a crossroads with a road.
(11) Take this small road south for about 1.7 km to find a trail that branches off to the right, 100 m after the access road to La Peterette.
(12) Turn right onto the path in the direction of the "Jura Höhenweg" sign no. 5. Pass a sports complex to reach today's accommodation, the Les Rochats restaurant and inn (E).
