The route starts at the Devins car park in Noiraigues.
(S/E) With your back to the car park, turn right, then immediately left. Pass the houses at Vers-chez-Joly and continue to the track.
(1) Follow it towards “Cirque du Creux du Van”. Then keep right at the next fork. Continue straight on along the same track, uphill, to the Ferme des Oeillons.
(2) Turn left and continue uphill along the Sentier des Quatorze Contours. The hairpin bends are quite wide at the start, but gradually get tighter towards the end. After the fourteenth bend, you’ll reach a viewpoint overlooking the Cirque du Creux du Van.
(3) Continue along the cliff edge (be careful, it is very steep and vertiginous). Pass the entrance to the restaurant on your right and reach the highest point of the hike.
(4) Enjoy the view over the cirque valley as far as Lake Neuchâtel. You’ll reach the final viewpoint overlooking the cirque.
(5) Stay on the path until you reach a fork.
(6) Take the path on the left. This path is very stony, slippery and technical. It leads to a picnic table and a hut.
(7) Head down to the left of these, then rejoin the path on the right. Cross a track twice, then follow the path on the left until you reach a junction. Turn left, towards Fontaine Froide.
(8) Continue along the main track to Ferme Robert.
(9) Follow the road, then, at the first bend, take the path down to the left. Cross the road once, then cross it again. Take the path on the right at the bend, heading downhill. Cross the road again.
(10) Follow the path. Then keep left all the way down until you cross a track again. Continue straight ahead and do the same at the road. When you reach another track, first turn right then left, towards the Gorges de l'Areuse. Cross the road again, then follow it to the left and take a bend. Join the path that descends towards the Gorges de l'Areuse. At the crossroads overlooking the gorges, turn left and you’ll soon reach a second one.
(11) Continue to the right to explore the gorges. After a few steps, cross the river via a bridge and see the Cascade du Saut de Brot. Continue to the end of the gorges.
(12) Then return to the previous junction.
(11) Continue straight on to cross the river via a footbridge. Then follow a tarmac path that runs alongside the railway line. Continue to the level crossing.
(13) Cross the tracks and follow them to the left on the other side. Then keep left, following the tracks, towards Noiraigue. At the next level crossing, turn left twice, cross the Areuse and return to the car park (S/E).
