Access: From Sisteron, take the D3 road towards Saint-Geniez. Before reaching Saint-Geniez, park in one of the few parking spaces available at the foot of the Pierre Écrite. A Latin inscription is carved into the rock.
(S/E) A few metres away, a small path marked in yellow climbs up to your left.
(1). You will start a short but steep climb, which can become very difficult in hot weather.
(2) At the top of the hill, you will arrive at a track at the foot of an old dead oak tree. An information plaque from the Route du Temps explains the forest species around you. Take the track on the right.
After passing under a high-voltage power line, you will see a path on your left that leaves the track and climbs through the forest.
(3) Take this path and follow it until you reach the ridge. You will pass under the high-voltage power line again. Continue on to the ridge.
(4) At the top of this ridge, enjoy the view. Turn left and follow the ridge. The path is not always very clear, but you cannot get lost.
You can turn back before reaching the end, but I really recommend going all the way to the end of the ridge.
The further you go, the more beautiful the landscape becomes. Admire the impressive vertical rock face, which looks as if it could break away at any moment and fall into the valley.
(5) Return by the same route you took on the way there. To make sure you don't miss the path that leaves the ridge, use the high-voltage power line as a reference point: the path branches off to the right just before the pylon.
You can also try to reach the track by cutting across the heath and forest from the ridge (this is what I tried to do, but it's not always easy) (S/E).
