Start at the bridge over the Ruisseau d’Asse.
(S) Cross the bridge and take the first street on the right (Rue du Ri d’Asse), or go via the other bank and cross a little further on. Follow the street as it moves away from the river. Cut across the Chaussée des Wallons to join the Chemin du Trimbleu.
(1) Follow this charming footpath to the left for its entire length. At Rue du Soldat Joseph Duthier, it continues along the left-hand pavement. At the Y-junction with the car park, the street turns right. Follow it to the roundabout.
(2) Take the second exit (second street on the left), Rue Lieutenant Pirard. Head towards the Berwinne. Do not cross the bridge. Take the turn just before the street running alongside the river. This is the GR®5 route. At the end of this, a path begins, crossing a long grassy area known as the Prés du Roi. Cross this, heading towards the houses at the far end near the river. Exit onto Rue de Cronwez.
(3) Turn left, cross the bridge, and ignore the streets coming from the left until you come to a T-junction with a slope.
(4) Turn right. Further on, leave Rue de Cronwez and take a path that climbs to the left. At the next junction, keep left and climb the slope to the top. Cut across the path ahead and continue straight on to the Visé cemetery and Rue Porte de Lorette. No more country lanes – you’re in town now.
(5) Follow the street under the trees on the right-hand side until you reach an old staircase – be careful, as it is very slippery in wet or icy conditions (see practical information). Descend it very carefully, as the ground is made of old, uneven cobblestones and the steps are of varying heights. Continue straight ahead along Rue Porte de Lorette to Place du Marché.
(6) Cross the road and then turn left. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Rue Haute. Follow this road until the fifth junction, at the corner of Place Reine Astrid and Avenue Albert1er. Turn left. Cross the Meuse.
(7) Carry on straight ahead along Avenue Franklin Roosevelt. At the first major junction, turn left onto the N618 (Allée Verte). At the roundabout, make sure you stay on the left-hand pavement. You’ll reach the bridge over the Canal Albert.
(8) Cross the bridge over the Albert Canal. Head down to the left onto the towpath and follow it until the parallel road (Allée Verte) leaves it. Join it via a small path and follow it to the left until you reach a junction.
(9) Turn left and follow Rue de Liège straight on. Continue until you reach a farm track on the right, opposite an entrance to the sewage treatment plant.
(10) Take this track. Please note: do not take this track in wet weather. The clay soil is very ‘sticky’ and will get all over your shoes! (see practical information).
(11) At the crossroads, turn right, cross the orchard and come out onto Rue du Long Fossé. Turn left. Continue to the roundabout (E).
