(S) Car park at the bottom of Notre-Dame des Buis on the D144, 500m before the Chapelle des Buis coming from Morre. Walk about ten metres along the stony path to find a small parking space. Yellow-blue and white-red markings. Set off with your back to the main road.
(1) You will soon see a signpost; turn left towards Grande Boucle de Fontain. At the tarmac road, go up to the right, cross the small bridge to visit Notre-Dame de la Libération and admire the viewpoint. Then cross the small bridge again, walk about thirty steps and go down the path on the right towards Centre Ville via Pré au Bœuf. At the next signpost, go down to the left. At the tarmac road, turn right towards Morre. You will pass the beautifully renovated La Bro farm with its breathtaking view of the circular Boucle.
(2) When the tarmac ends, turn left onto the Morre-Maillot footpath.
At the Grand Besançon signpost, take the path on the right despite the signs prohibiting it, to reach the unprotected viewpoint over Montfaucon and the Doubs Valley. When you reach the ridge, turn left (white-red markings). Be careful! Return to the signpost and descend to the right. The descent to Morre via this winding path can be very slippery in wet weather. Follow the markings for another viewpoint over the valley.
(3) About a hundred metres after the second viewpoint over Morre, when the marked trail makes a hairpin turn, leave the markings and head up to the right along a small path.
(4) When you approach a meadow (without going into it), look for a red ACCA Besançon sign, then take the path on the left, continuing to climb the hillside. At the top, after an open area with a view of Besançon, you will join and follow a ridge path, taking it on the right. It becomes less well maintained but remains clearly visible.
(5) You will find a marked path at a signpost and turn left towards the Monument de la Libération. Pass the first signpost at the start and continue straight downhill, despite the yellow and red cross, to reach the car park.
The route includes ledge paths and unsecured viewpoints. Rocky and slippery paths in places. Sturdy footwear is essential and walking sticks are recommended.
