The Porte de Brocéliande in Montfort-sur-Meu
Montfort-sur-Meu, formerly Montfort La Cane, is a town steeped in history with a remarkable heritage located at the gateway to Brocéliande, with its mythical forest and Arthurian legends:
A medieval town under the Lords of Gaël-Montfort; a fortified town of which the Papegault Tower, the Châtelet and the remains of the ramparts still stand; a religious town with St-Jacques Abbey, the Ursuline Convent and the birthplace of Saint Louis Grignion de Montfort.

From La Chambre au Loup to Boutavent Castle in Brocéliande
From Lake Trémelin: start with Les Landiers de Trémelin, then cross the Chambre au Loup valley with its woods and moors, followed by a visit to the ruins of Boutavent Castle, owned by the Lords of Gaël-Montfort in the 13th and 14th centuries, and return via the Putenoë woods to finish along the lake.

Walk between two ponds in Brocéliande in Iffendic
The legendary Brocéliande is undoubtedly the most popular of all, but the natural Brocéliande is just as omnipresent.
It is the latter that you will discover on this hike, with Lake Trémelin, the Bois de la Roche Trébulente and Putenoë woods, and above all the Careil bird sanctuary... don't forget your binoculars!
The balconies of Monterfil
Monterfil is located between Rennes and Plélan-le-Grand, close to the Paimpont forest and the Brocéliande site. Here, visitors will get a taste of the moorland and schist landscapes. They will also have the opportunity to cross deep, steep-sided valleys where small streams flow peacefully.
Chambre au Loup circuit
The first part of this hike takes you into deep woods. Then you will discover the archaeological site of the medieval castle of Boutavent. Continue this hike through open areas with beautiful panoramic views and steep ascents and descents to reach the Étang de la Chambre au Loup.The return journey takes you back up a steep, open and rocky climb with breathtaking views.

Around Mordelles
As you explore the outskirts of Mordelles, you will discover the magnificent Château de la Chesnais, the Vaunoise and Meu rivers, the Parc du Pressoir, a beautiful mill, the Étangs de la Biardais ponds and a Gallo-Roman temple.
The circular loops of the Flûme and Champalaune rivers
A short walk along the banks of the Flûme and Champalaune rivers and through the small Champagne wood.
Apigné ponds and banks of the Vilaine
Enjoy a pleasant walk along the Vilaine river and the Étangs d'Apigné lakes. This lake area is very popular with the people of Rennes for sports and picnics. You are sure to come across joggers and cyclists along the path.
The Néal Valley and the Lampouy alignments in Médréac
Médréac, a small village in Ille-et-Vilaine, on the border with Côtes d'Armor. The route is particularly attractive: the picturesque Néal valley with the cave of Gabillard, a local Chouan resistance fighter, the megalithic alignments of Lampouy, the railway station, its museum and its rail bike with two routes.
This hike follows theGR® 37 and part of thePR® "Circuit des mégalithes" (Megalith Circuit). The southern part of thisPR® has not been included as it is uninteresting and the paths are poorly maintained.
Ermitage route
A beautiful route between the towns of Baulon, Lassy and Goven, surrounded by the legends of the Notre-Dame chapel. Discover the history surrounding the statue of Saint Anne and the nearby fountain.
This route is partially signposted (wooden sign, yellow paint indicating the Hermitage route). Part of it is shared with another very well-signposted route (the Caffort route).
Tour of Bécherel
Stroll through and around Bécherel.
A few tricky ascents and descents, but a very pleasant route for exploring this charming town!

Countryside and Canut valley via the Streams and Landes routes
A route allowing you to see the countryside and woods around Lassy, then reach the Canut valley and the moorland.
Best done clockwise to finish with the moorland and the view of the Canut valley.
Please note: the Canut crossing between (9) and (10) can be difficult after heavy rain.
There are a few road crossings, but visibility is fairly good to very good, making it easy to cross, but caution is advised.
Canut Valley discovery route
Short family walk along the discovery trail in the protected natural site of the Canut Valley.The route is mostly shaded and features educational panels on the local flora and fauna.On the trail, you will pass by the old Ritoir mill, which has been converted into the Maison des Énergies.
In the Paimpont forest, passing by two lakes
A circular walk in the heart of unspoilt countryside. The route is ideal for a family outing or a walk with friends, with no difficulty involved. The route passes close to a cave at the start and offers a beautiful view of Brocéliande Castle at the Pas du Houx Pond halfway along the route.

The 11 locks and 7 mills of Hédé
Circuit exploring the 11 locks of the Canal d’Ille-et-Rance.
Boël Trail (Sentier du Boël)
A very pleasant hike. First section at the top of cliffs, with lovely views over the Vilaine river and the site "Moulin du Boël". Cross a shady woodland, then return along the towpath.
To avoid as much as possible passing along the military site's fence ("Le Celar"), this new description uses a slightly more technical part of the GR®.
The Rance and the Rophemel Pond
In Rophemel, the Rance flows through a valley of great beauty. Built in the 1930s, the hydroelectric dam submerged nine fulling and wheat mills. The dam and valley have been a "listed and protected site" since 1945. In addition to producing electricity, the reservoir also supplies drinking water to the city of Rennes.
The reservoir was drained in early 2018 to carry out work on the dam.
Another drainage operation is underway (2024) to carry out further work on the dam (see my hike: https://www.visorando.com/randonnee-6431... )
The Giants' Walk in the Bazouges Basin
This short walk through the woods and along the water's edge will impress you. You will encounter giants: beech trees, oaks and a few chestnut trees over 25 to 30 metres tall. Some are grouped together, so in summer you find yourself under a cathedral of greenery.The Bazouges Basin, its wildlife, the reeds and the houses on its banks will naturally bring out your cameras. Full of freshness, this short hike is a pleasant little break on hot days from June to October.
Hédé and its locks
A pleasant hike where you can enjoy the paths and small roads to Hédé.
Then follow theGR®37trail, which will take you to the canal. Return along the towpaths to the starting point.
Don't forget your camera.
In the Vilaine region between Laillé and Bourg-des-Comptes
This is a beautiful circular that partly follows theGR®39along charming paths. The return journey is along the towpath, going up the Vilaine.
This path takes you through beautiful landscapes, typical villages, charming residences and locks, and ends up running alongside this river, which is so poorly named.
Lancelot's walk in Beignon
This route will allow you to discover the village of Beignon, but also to immerse yourself in the legends of Lancelot and Guinevere. During the walk, discover the Affolettes Garden and the Slippery Rock site, then enjoy nature along the Aff Valley.
