Description of the walk

Park in the car park by the church in Hautepierre-le-Château.

(S/E) Head down to the left, walk past the church, then follow the road to the left as far as the cross.

(1) Turn right and immediately take the path on the right. Continue across the field, then along the edge of the field, before entering the woodland. You’ll reach a T-junction.

(2) Turn left, cross the field and continue downhill, first through the field, then into the woods. Follow the path, keeping to the lower ground. You’ll reach a fork in the road at a hairpin bend.

(3) Take the path on the right, continuing to descend, and join the D67.

(4) Cross the road with great care. Turn left straight ahead to follow the path, leaving the entrance to the Grotte des Faux Monnayeurs further on to your left. To the right, the descent continues with another road crossing, leading to the power station. Continue down theGR®145to reach the lowest point of the walk.

(5) Now walk alongside the River Loue. You’ll come to a Y-junction.

(6) Turn right onto theGR®; at the top of the path, turn left to join the departmental road and follow it to the left for about a hundred metres. Then turn right towards Hautepierre via Rue du Chapité.

(7) Continue straight on through the village along the road, passing between the church and the town hall. Then turn right onto Rue Robert Dame.

(8) Leave theGR®145here, turn right and follow theGRP® between Loue and Lison in the Corbet region, marked in yellow and red, first along the road and then along the path between two walls. This path joins the D244. Cross the road further up to reach a dirt track, which you should follow for about 1 km. You will reach the Combe d’Éteing crossroads, where there is a Canadian-style footbridge.

(9) Turn right into the field, heading uphill. Cross the D244 and continue straight ahead. You’ll reach a crossroads just before a hut.

(10) Head left up a steep slope. You’ll reach the D244 one last time; head down to the left for a few tens of metres, then turn right to rejoin theGRP®. The path climbs gently; after turning right and then left, it becomes steep in the forest. The path then reaches the ridge and continues to the Roche orientation table.

(11) Continue along the path, keeping to the dry grassy areas. Behind the wayside shrine, go through the fence and head down the field on the left, running parallel to the fence, to reach a dirt track near the reservoirs.

(12) Follow this dirt track to the left, which leads to a road. Turn right and follow this road to the church car park (S/E).
