Park in the large car park at Saint Alban Leysse Town Hall. Two signs describe the trails in the area.
(S/E) Head left into the village, taking Rue de l'Église then Route de Chesses until you reach the junction with Rue de la Bémaz.
(1). Take this street and shortly afterwards look for the trail that starts on the right.
(2) Take this path, which climbs steeply through the box trees and quickly turns south-north. Ignore all the paths that branch off to the right.
At an altitude of 540 m, the path passes near an orientation table. A sign typical of the area will soon tell us which direction to follow: Verel, Montbasin, Chemin des Neiges, Falaises.
Falaises (Cliffs): we are indeed on a path along the edge of cliffs. This information tells us that the path becomes a little more exposed, with two small passages secured by cables, but there is no real danger. Chemin des Neiges (Snow Path): when there is snow, of course. Continue along the path, ignoring the branches that branch off to the left, such as La Clusaz.
At the next Y-shaped intersection, take the path on the right, still heading towards Montbasin.
Then, at an altitude of 735 metres, look for a sign indicating Razerel, which will be our route on the way down.
(3) Continue climbing. Below on the left, you can see the village of Verel through the foliage. Continuing northwards, you will arrive at a more open area, where the Croix du Nivolet will soon come into view.
Continue walking towards the ruins in the Montbasin mountain pasture.
(4) Descend to the 735 m point, which you already passed on the way up.
(3) Follow the signs carefully towards Four de Razerel. Cross the ruined hamlet of Razerel, except for the oven, which is the main point of interest in the area. After Razerel, continue downhill to an intersection (elevation 645).
(5) Follow the signs for Monterminod, turning left. After a long stretch through the woods, the trail takes a section called Chemin des Brûlins. At the bottom of the descent, leave the path that leads to Saint Alban Leysse on your right.
(6) Start climbing back up theGR®96, passing to the left of a yellow house. Further up, leave theGR® trail heading towards Lovettaz and continue descending towards Monterminod. You will soon see the first buildings.
(7) Turn right, descending towards the village, passing imposing, opulent villas, and follow the few bends in the road to reach a crossroads.
(8) Turn right onto the vineyard path (road), which also leads to a restaurant. Further on, turn left onto the Perrotine path (road). Leave it almost immediately and head towards Champ Piteau.
(9) A paved path follows the road and descends steeply into the urban area. You can now follow your nose, as the path leads to a road above the school.
(10) Go around the school on the left; the car park is now only a few dozen metres away (S/E).
(we are over 70 years old).
