Go to Salins-les-Bains and park in the car park near the Camping des Gabelous campsite.
Hike following the white-red markings (with a few yellow signs and arrows)
(S/E) From the car park, head to the stadium. At the end of the stadium, a staircase leads to a small road (Chemin des Margiliens). You will see the Mont Poupet cross on your right. Follow it to the left and, at the intersection, take the cycle path opposite. Continue until you reach a small tarmac road that crosses the cycle path.
(1) Go up to the right (there are few cars, but be careful) and continue climbing alongside a vineyard.
(2) Turn left onto a gravel path. This climbs towards the village of Saint-Thiébaud through fields. You will come to a road a little higher up as you approach the village. Continue to the left and cross the village. At a cross, turn right and then left.
(3) A little further on, the path branches off to the right and enters the forest. Climb the slope, following the markings.
(4) You will arrive at the summit at a paragliding launch site with a viewpoint towards Besançon. From there, continue to the right and you will find a second launch site with a viewpoint towards Mouchard. These are two pleasant viewpoints over the Jura region.
Then, find a flat stone path to the left. Continue along the path which (after a small hill) joins a tarmac road in the middle of a clearing. At the crossroads, turn right.
(5) You will arrive at the geographical summit of Mont Poupet with, near the pylons, an old viewpoint slightly obscured by vegetation. Return to the crossroads and turn right to begin the descent and reach the Croix du Mont Poupet overlooking Salins-Les-Bains. Take the stairs to reach this splendid viewpoint.
(6) Then turn around and descend to the right. At a nearby car park, the route continues its descent into the woods via a small path opposite, with picnic areas and a small spring at the start of the forest.
The "Chemin de l'Âne" rejoins the D492 departmental road further down.
(7) Cross it and go around the farm. Turn right and follow the path straight ahead, which descends until it joins the road at a bend.
(8) Take the path that branches off to the left and enters the meadows. A little further on, ignore the path on the left and go through the gate opposite.
Climb the hill through a "cow field" and reach a farm (Tout Vent) at the top. The route continues opposite towards Salins-les-Bains, via the old Roman road, sometimes in the middle of fields. Enjoy one last view of Mont Poupet on the right.
(9) At the small tarmac road (Chemin de la Plaine), continue to the next crossroads.
(10) Turn right at the hairpin bend and, at the roundabout, take the road that descends opposite towards the car park (S/E).
