Mount Minlo'o

Rising from the banks of the Méfou Dam and slightly lower than its neighbouring twin (966 m), Mount Minlo'o peaks at just over 900 m. The absence of tall vegetation on almost the entire ascent offers a clear panoramic view of the Nkobisson district, Lake Mefou and five of the seven hills surrounding Yaoundé. Starting and ending with fairly significant elevation changes, this hike is somewhat challenging without being reserved for the most athletic. A minimum level of physical fitness is nevertheless required.

Description of the walk

Go to Carrefour Claretains to start the route: 300 CFA francs per person by motorbike from the GP Mvog Betsi crossroads.

(S/E) Head north-east and continue for more than 1 km until you reach an intersection.

(1) Turn right before the school to reach the foot of the mountain and begin the ascent. Follow the zigzagging path, which takes you up a gentler slope and also crosses a small stream.

(2) Leave the return trail on your left and continue until you reach a small hut.

(3) Continue to the summit.

(4) After enjoying the panoramic view from the summit, return to the hut.

(3) Continue your descent.

(2) Turn right to descend the south-western slope and avoid returning by the same route. Further down, you will pass through a residential area. Please respect private property and do not hesitate to ask the residents for directions; they will be happy to help you. Return to the road.

(5) Turn right for about 300 metres, then take the path on the left to see the Méfou dam.

(6) Turn back.

(5) Continue straight ahead to return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Be careful of the wet rocks on the mountain, which can be very slippery during the rainy season. In the dry season, the rocks provide good grip for shoes.

A walking stick can be very useful.
