Mount Mbog-Doum

At 953 metres above sea level, Mount Mbog-Doum is the smallest of Yaoundé's seven hills. You will have a view of Nkolbisson, the Méfou Dam, Mount Akok Ndoé and Mount Minlo'o.

Unfortunately, the view is obstructed halfway up by the forest, which gradually thickens towards the summit. Therefore, the only reason to continue to the summit is for the challenge it represents.

This hike is not the most unmissable of the seven hills, not to say the least, but it is still enjoyable and allows you to explore the Nkolbisson neighbourhood in depth.

Description of the walk

The route starts from the Nkolbisson crossroads (S), at 100 CFA francs per person by motorbike from the MEEC crossroads.

Those who are familiar with the area can go directly to the point (2), which is the starting point of the hike.

For others, head towards the Catholic University of Central Africa (1), then towards the Sisters' Hospital located just before the point (2). This point is the starting point of the hike, where you will find a football field and a beautiful view of the western flank of Mount Akok Ndoé.

From the starting point to the point (4), you will take an easily passable path, which will offer you a beautiful panoramic view.

From point (4) to the summit (5), the path becomes a trail and the vegetation becomes increasingly dense. Be careful not to miss the intersection at point (4), where you will switch from a fairly wide path to a small trail that begins with rocks.

At the summit (5), you will not be rewarded with a 360° panoramic view; you will be surrounded only by forest and will have to content yourself with the satisfaction of having reached the top of Mount Mbog-Doum!

There is no point in continuing beyond this point (5), as the path continues but leads to nothing but forest. We tried to find a path leading to the other side (Mendong district) but to no avail. After talking to a local resident, we learned that there is no such path... You will therefore have to take the same path you came up to descend.

Notes

You can buy bottles of water and food at the stalls and shops along the road to Mount Mbog-Doum or in the shops and bakeries at the Nkolbisson crossroads.

I recommend wearing ankle-length trousers for the section in the forest because of the vegetation.

Also bring mosquito repellent, as there are a few mosquitoes.
