Mount Fébé and Mount Mbankolo

Mont Fébé and Mont Mbankolo are undoubtedly the two most famous of the seven hills surrounding the city of Yaoundé. Rising to 1,077 m and 1,096 m respectively, they are a good place to start if you want to explore the Cameroonian capital. With 90% of the route easily accessible, this hike is accessible yet challenging. From Mount Fébé, you will have a view of the entire north-west of Yaoundé and, along the way, you will find open-air art galleries, the Parcours Vita, the Mount Fébé monastery and finally the Mount Fébé Hotel.

Description of the walk

To start the route, go to the Bastos roundabout.

(S) Head north along Route du Mont Fébé. Go around the Unité roundabout on the left and you will arrive at the open-air art galleries.

(1) Continue past the Parcours Vita car park.

(2) Take the large staircase on the right leading to the Monastery of Notre-Dame des Bénédictins du Mont Fébé.

(3) Go back down the steps.

(2) Turn right and continue along the road until you reach the rock that marks the highest point. The true summit of Mont Fébé, located to the north, is not accessible.

(4) Continue on and you will reach Carrefour Ministre.

(5) Continue straight ahead through the houses of Cité de la Vierge Marie, to the foot of Mount Mbankolo.

(6) Turn left onto a path, cross the fields and join another path further up.

(7) Continue left towards the summit, passing through the most difficult section of the route due to dense vegetation and poor visibility on the path. Reach Mount Mbankolo: there is no real view, as it is obstructed by vegetation.

(8) Reach the road and descend via a series of sharp turns.

(9) Leave the cul-de-sac on your left, stay on the road and reach Carrefour Mbankolo, where you will easily find a taxi or motorbike to take you back (E).
