Access: From Embrun, take the N2094 through the town centre towards Briançon-Gap, then, just before the post office, turn right and follow the D465 towards Caléyère. Pass the hamlet and then the castle of the same name. Continue to the car park on the right-hand side of the road. The distance from the post office in Embrun is approximately 10 km along a fully tarmac-surfaced road.
(S/E) From the car park, turn left onto the track and follow it for about thirty metres towards Mont Guillaume via Pré Clos. At the signpost, turn right onto the path towards Mont Guillaume and the Chapelle des Séyères for 200 metres.
(1) At the junction and signpost, go straight on towards the chapel. The path climbs through a dense larch forest before joining a lane.
(2) At the signpost, turn 90° to the left, still heading towards the Chapelle des Séyères and Mont Guillaume. Follow this avenue for about 80 metres.
(3) At the next signpost, continue in the same south-westerly direction, then follow this path for 980 metres until you reach the next junction.
(4) Leave the track and turn right onto the path towards Mont Guillaume. The path climbs gently up the hillside through a forest of larch and Scots pine, then crosses a wide track of ploughed earth. Our path eventually turns into a track.
From here, pay close attention. A cairn on the left-hand side of the track marks the start of a small path that branches off diagonally.
(5) At the cairn, take this path on the left. It climbs for about twenty metres. Cross the wide, hard-packed earth track, then continue along the path to the next clearly signposted junction.
(6) At the signpost, take a sharp left-hand bend to join the Widman path towards Mont Guillaume.
A little further on, when you reach a junction (path and track) which does not appear on the IGN map, continue in the same direction. The track turns into a path and crosses a rocky area before emerging at another signposted junction.
(7) Take the path on the left, cross the Sainte-Marthe stream, reach the Chapelle des Séyères and, just after that, the fountain of the same name in the same direction. Then take the path southwards to the next junction.
(8) At the signpost, take the hairpin bend to the right towards Mont Guillaume. This path emerges from the forest and climbs, passing through rhododendron thickets and piles of boulders. Take the hairpin bend to the left and follow the hillside (south-east).
(9) To make the final ascent to the summit, at the junction, take the path on the right, which climbs more gently as it traverses. After a hairpin bend, the path continues along the slope beneath the northern ridge of the summit; it is not uncommon to encounter some snowfields here at the start of the season. After a final, steeper climb, you’ll reach the summit cross and the Mont Guillaume Chapel.
(10) Return in the opposite direction via the same route to the car park (S/E).
