Description of the walk

Parking is available at the lower station of the Pré Richard chairlift, at a place called La Palud.

Directional signs at major intersections. Where available, signposting is only mentioned when necessary.

(S/E) Head south-east, leaving a municipal technical building on your right and the chairlift station on your left. Climb between the chairlift line on your left and a stream on your right. At a fork, turn right and leave a small building on your left. Cross the stream and you will immediately come to a crossroads at a place called Les Esserts.

(1) Turn right (west) towards Bois de l'Envers. At the crossroads that immediately follows, go straight ahead. Cross the bed of a stream (which may be dry) and you will reach a fork in the road.

(2) Turn left and climb into the forest, heading west. Further on, the path turns south-west, still climbing.

(3) Ignore a path on the right and continue climbing. In a left-hand bend, ignore a path on the right. Leave the forest and you will come out onto a pasture (cross).

(4) Continue south-east towards Col des Bœufs, on fairly flat ground and following a GR® (red and white markings). Ignore a vague trail on the left (elevation 1436). Climb up and re-enter a wooded area.

(5) Turn left onto a path towards Mont Baron. Climb up a small rocky corridor without difficulty, but take care. Continue climbing on the path, passing an isolated spruce tree on the right, and reach the summit (cross; beautiful view).

(6) Begin the descent by continuing along the path and, at the fork that appears after only a few metres, take the left-hand path. Descend a few steep bends and arrive at the "Altitude 1450 m" signpost.

(7) Then turn left and descend more gently to quickly reach the Col des Bœufs.

(8) Turn left towards Pré Richard via Les Rochers des Pellys. Go through a gate and descend diagonally (there are railings at the start of the path). The path then becomes steeper and is interspersed with wooden steps.

(9) At a T-junction, turn left towards Les Esserts. After about 250 metres, turn right and descend. Pass between two ski lifts, come out onto a track and follow it to the left for about 30 metres.

(10) Then turn right and leave a building on your left. Cross a short wooded area, staying on the main path and ignoring the side paths. Return to the pastures and descend to a place called Les Esserts.

(1) Turn right, immediately cross a stream and descend parallel to the chairlift line to the car park (S/E).
