Sea and countryside around Pointe de Beg Meil

This route allows you to discover several aspects of the Pointe de Beg Meil, a tourist hotspot since the second half of the 19th century: a coastal path that winds its way between beautiful private properties at the start, then opens up later on, passing through the countryside and residential areas via small roads and paths, the edge of the Mousterlin marsh and finally returning along the large beaches and the dune planted with conifers, the symbol of this point.

Description of the walk

GR®34markings: White and red (very prominent)

(S/E) From the car park, head left towards the east in the direction of the semaphore, which is easily recognisable by its white and red pylon. Follow this narrow path that runs alongside the semaphore site. Note the remains of blockhouses, as this point was a strategic location during the 1939-1945 war. Try to spot the old stone markers engraved with a naval anchor, which mark military land belonging to the navy. This part of the path is lined with blackthorn and gorse hedges.

Further on, the path narrows between high fences and wire mesh, a section reclaimed from properties that had taken over this coastal path. Several staircases lead down to small white sand coves. Continue along the facilities along Plage des Oiseaux beach, then find a wide path that leads away from the seafront for a while.

(1) At the top, turn right into the street called Chemin Creux and continue straight ahead. Go around the Agro Campus buildings by turning left up Chemin de la Cale.

(2) Before the roundabout at the top of the street, turn right towards the Lanroz property and continue along the path that extends from it. Turn left at the street, then take a new path on the right. Turn right again and continue along the wide path that winds between the properties to reach Kerangrimen Cove, which was once private.
In this maze of streets, alleys and paths, theGR® trail markings are very visible.

(3) Walk to the left along this cove, overlooked by beautiful residences, and reach a wooden staircase that leads back up to the coastal path (viewpoint over the Baie de la Forêt and Concarneau opposite). Continue along this path, which borders vast properties, and arrive at Kerveltrec Beach, where you leave theGR® to continue.

Yellow markings (in the opposite direction of the route)

(4) Go up this street on the left, Hent Kerveltrec, turn left into the second street, Hent ar Menez, which goes around the houses, and in the bend, continue along a path that runs alongside the Roche Percée campsite on the left. Come out onto the road, turn left and arrive at the D45 (beautiful water tower opposite).

(5) Cross this road (D45) at the pedestrian crossing and follow the cycle path to the left for about 200 metres. Leave it on the right at the first street, Hent Brinigwenn.

(6) At the barrier, turn left onto Chemin de Kerbrigent, a beautiful tree-lined path with several benches. At the end, continue straight on along the street of the same name.

(7) At the next three-way junction, turn left onto a path called Vinogen Louarn (fox crossing) and continue along the small road Hent Galzadeg until you reach the T-junction where you leave the yellow markings (yellow cross).

Red markings (in the opposite direction of the route)

Turn right onto Chemin de Park Marc'h, pass a roundabout (signposted cider house) and continue along Hent Carbon, which veers to the right.

Off the trail

(8) At the crossroads, leave the red markings and turn left into Hent Du street and follow it straight ahead until the next crossroads.

Red markings (few and somewhat faded)

(9) Turn left onto this road for about 100 metres, then turn right onto the first road, Hent Mesc'hour, and follow it to the edge of the marsh, ignoring a road on the right leading to the sewage treatment plant.

No markings

Follow the small road on the left that runs alongside the marsh, passing a farm entrance on your right, and continue along the road as it turns left.

(10) Just after the "Give way 100m" sign, turn right towards the entrance to a white house and immediately take a wide path on the right that runs alongside the futuristic-looking Village Vacances Renouveau holiday village. Continue along the road.

GR®34markings: White and red

After the car park, turn right to reach Maner Beach or Coat Clévarerc.

(11) At the beach, there are three options:
- a wide path covered with wood chips behind the dune (GR®),
- a path at the top of the dune as shown on the map (more difficult because it is sandy),
- the beach at low tide, walking on the lower part where the sand is harder.
Whichever option you choose, head east for about 2 km until you reach a road at Kerambigorn Beach.
Climb up into the Beg Meil pine forest and continue until you reach the car park at the end (S/E).

Notes

Other car parks are available along the beaches.
Several toilet facilities along the route, especially near the beaches.
A few shelters for waiting for school buses

In the countryside section, it is easy to find your way as all the streets and paths have signs with their names on them.

Avoid Sundays due to the large number of walkers and dogs, especially in the first part of the route.

Beaches in the summer
Beg Meil semaphore

Pine forest: the rocky cliffs of Beg-Meil are topped by "perched dunes" that were planted around 1900.
Thanks to a layer of soil a few metres below the sand, the pines and cypresses quickly grew to a very large size despite the storms and proximity to the sea. This magnificent pine forest is largely responsible for Beg-Meil's popularity with tourists. In 1987, the pine forest was destroyed by a hurricane. Replanted shortly afterwards, it is now gradually being reopened to the public.

A beautiful coastal walk with a section through a residential area. You can discover the different aspects of the Beg Meil area.
However, a small correction needs to be made, as it is not possible to reach point 1 as indicated by the trail. We therefore continued along the coastal path to return to it, which was hardly a problem.

All in all, a very pleasant walk in the sunshine.

Recommended.

A very beautiful hike, best done in the morning and out of season as the coastal path is very busy. The inland section is also pleasant as there are no major roads to walk alongside, alternating between country lanes and residential areas.

Superb hike, partly along the coastal path
At number 4, do not go to the roundabout dominated by the water tower; the cycle path is at the level of the (D45) before it.

Great hike, very pleasant coastal section with coves (but very crowded, narrow path), and the town section is also very exotic!
