Departure from the Menthières car park at the foot of the slopes.
(S/E) The hike starts opposite the ski slopes. Go around the technical building and follow the signs for "Crêt de la Goutte" (yellow and red markings).
(1) Leave the marked trail and climb up to the Chalet du Sac heading east, taking the ski trail. 1 km from the car park, pass the Frasses ski lift departure point,
(2) Take the forest track slightly to the left and, 150 m further on, cross the path and continue straight ahead into the valley heading south-east. When you reach the pasture, leave the valley and take the IGN-marked mountain trail on the left which leads to the Chalet du Sac.
(3) South of the chalet, head south, then west (left) onto the IGN trail that goes around the Crêt de l'Éguillon.
(4) When you reach the "Pierre à fromage" (cheese stone), a large stone standing vertically at the foot of the Crêt de la Goutte, climb up towards the south, following the IGN mountain trail. At the summit, you can consult the orientation table, which provides a 360° view of the surrounding area.
(5) Continue south for about 2.5 km through the pastures, leaving the Crêt du Milieu on your right and the two radio transmitters on your left, following the IGN trail, which is more or less marked at this point.
(6) Turn right towards the west (facing the second pylon) onto the dirt track that descends to the forest road car park (Parking de la Charmante), which you will see after about 300 m.
(7) Head north-west along the road until you reach a fork.
(8) Turn right onto the gravel road marked "Chalet de Varambon," which you will reach after 1 km. Continue north along the mountainside through pastures for 800 m and rejoin the IGN trail that enters the woods on the left.
(9) Continue until you reach a forest road and a car park after about 1 km.
(10) Continue along the path, still heading north, slightly to the left of the forest road car park. After 800 m, you will come to a chairlift pylon. Turn right and follow a very steep section of the north-facing ski slope, which you will cross to rejoin the ski slope you started on.
(1) Descend the slope, turning left towards the west until you reach the car park at the start, or take the path on the left that also leads there, arriving at the south of the car park, near the technical building (S/E).
Be careful at the start, the tracks are a bit steep
