Park near the Hôtel le Clos in Besse.
(S/E) Start on the Sentier de Découverte (Discovery Trail) and follow the yellow markings. Walk along the D978, which is below on the left. Cross a wooded area and you will reach the Goyon fountain.
(1) Cross a pasture that leads to a paved road.
(2) Turn right and then immediately left to cross a meadow that leads to another small tarmac road. On the left is the D149 road to Super Besse, and parallel toit, inthe background, is the D978. A sign on the left indicates the direction of Lac Pavin, and on the right, the direction of Puy de Sancy.
(3) Turn right, leaving the access road to Rioubes Haut on your left, and after the Martelles junction, the road gives way to a hiking trail.
(4) Go straight ahead and continue along the trail. After the wooded section, it branches off to the north and then north-west, towards Puy de Chambourguet. Walk to the foot of this hill.
(5) Here you will find a large pile of scree. Do not cross it, but take the path that descends to the left along a fence.
Descend as if you were heading to Super Besse and you will reach the cross-country ski trails and the reception hut.
(6) Immediately turn right onto the path. Go around the village of Super Besse from above to join theGR®4.
(7) Take this trail and follow the red and white markings. Turn left and cross the mountain cirque, passing under several ski lifts. You will then come out at the intersection below the Croix de Seignavoux.
(8) Take the track on the right. Pass under the Pailleret ski lifts and arrive at the Col du Couhay.
(9) Here, you will rejoin theGR® 30 and continue on to the Col de la Cabane crossroads.
(10) Keep left on theGR®30to reach the summit of Puy de Sancy via a few steps.
(11) Retrace your steps to return to the Besse car park (S/E).
There are two paths to the summit. The south face path is unpaved, while the north face path has wooden steps.
