Parking opposite the town hall.
(S/E) From the car park, head towards Saint-Pierre Church, enter the enclosure and go around it on the left. On the north side, note a small three-bay ossuary dating from 1743, which was built in the old cemetery that surrounded the church.
Go down the stairs to Route de Saint-Pol and follow this road to the left until you reach the pedestrian crossing.
Cross the D10 (with extreme caution) and take the small road opposite to the first crossroads
(1). Turn right and follow this old Brest-Saint-Pol de Léon road, pass under the road bridge of the old road and, just before the D10, turn left to join theGR®®34at the Manoir de Saint-Jacques (17th century).
GR®®34markings: White and red + Way of St James: Blue and yellow
(2) Take the stairs down to the left onto the coastal path that runs along the cove of the Rivière Le Guillec. On the right, you will see the old watermill, which has been restored as a dwelling (known as Palud), and join the road that passes between the Manoir de Kerlan ((15th-16th century) on the left and the old seigneurial mill of Kerlan (16th century) on the right. Note the new wooden wheel that was installed in 2018.
(3) Turn right onto the coastal path bordering fields planted with artichokes or cauliflowers, depending on the season. We are in the heart of the vegetable-growing area known as the "Golden Belt". Continue along this path which runs alongside the ria and you will reach a small pebble beach where a road ends (1 parking space reserved for disabled people).
(4) At the Moguériec signpost, take the steps and follow the path on the right along the edge of the meadows, which goes around a property. Continue through a small wooded area and follow the same ria between hawthorn hedges. You will reach another cove with a small beach.
(5) Stay on the coastal path along the edge of the ria, leaving a wider path that heads inland. Soon the view widens and you can see the sea with the Île de Batz, dominated by its lighthouse, and the Île Sieck on the horizon. On the left, you can see the jetty and its lighthouse, which marks the entrance to the port of Moguériec, where the Le Guillec River meets the sea. Arrive at the campsite, go around it on the right and descend to the port platform.
(6) Follow the quay (take care, this is a working area) and at the end of the inner harbour, take the steps on the right to reach Moguériec.
(7) Turn right to continue along the quay. On your left, you will see a stone marker indicating the starting point of the Compostela trail.
GR®®34trail markers: White and red
Head towards the jetty, crossing a small sandy beach.
For safety reasons, access to the jetty is prohibited (sign). Go around a large house at the tip and join the access road to the port (be careful, theGR®® sign can be misleading as it directs you along the seafront, which is not always accessible).
Follow the road to the right for about 300 metres.
(8) Turn right into the street, which continues as a path above a rocky outcrop, and arrive at the tip of Théven (Téven on the map) and go around the two houses on the left. You will reach a car park (view of a large pebble beach bordered by Pors Misclic beach).
(9) Turn right towards the entrance to the "Le Théven" outdoor accommodation (marked as a campsite on the IGN map), then turn right. Continue along this path lined with tamarisk hedges, which now offers beautiful views of the English Channel. You will reach and walk alongside a fenced-off moor where a bench invites you to take a break facing the open sea. The path continues along the rocky coast, turns left at a small sandy beach and continues along the Port Neuf cove, a haven of rest for a few boaters and a white sandy beach.
Follow it to its end and turn right.
(10) Cross a small bridge to continue along the path on the other side of the cove. Go around a large isolated house and its rocky outcrop covered in flowers and follow the path through an area of heathland. Pass by a rock known locally as the Rocher du Chien (Dog Rock). You will arrive at a rocky point called Théven or Téven Braz (Great Dune), which is extended by a rocky islet called Holen (Salt).
(11) Turn slightly left to pass through a granite quarry that has been restored by its owner and volunteers. The commune of Cléder was an important centre for the extraction of this stone until the First World War. Pass a first cove and reach the small beach of Groac'h zu, where the circuit leaves the coast and theGR®®34, which continues westwards.
YellowPR®® markings (relatively discreet)
(12) At the car park, turn left and follow a wide dirt track between the fields, which joins a tarmac road at a place called Kerfiat. Cross the hamlet and follow the small sign for "Cyclo Cléder VTC" to reach a Y-junction.
(13) Follow the small road on the left that leads to the large house with its pile of stones that you passed on the way there. Turn right and retrace your steps along the Port Neuf cove.
(10) Cross the small bridge again, leave the cove on your left and take the road opposite.
No signposts
At the first crossroads, turn left and then left again at the Port Neuf sign. Follow this small road which leads to the Port Neuf beach car park.
(14) Just after the car park, turn right onto a driveway that goes uphill. Leave a northbound path on your left and continue straight ahead. At the Créac'h al Lia housing estate junction, turn left. Continue along a wide carriageway that turns right and runs alongside the "Le Theven" outdoor hotel (marked as a campsite on the IGN map) to reach Rue du Port.
(15) Go up this street on the right-hand side, past a holiday residence, cross a crossroads and reach a roundabout (bar on the right). This bar-museum is worth a visit.
(16) Continue straight ahead at the roundabout, taking advantage of the small car park on the right, and follow this road along the grassy strip on the right. You will arrive at a shed on the right.
(17) At the Boucle Léonarde signpost (cycle route), turn left onto a white path. At the first intersection, turn right to climb up to the hamlet of Kernavalot, which you cross via a small road. Continue along the road (new Boucle Léonarde signpost) and arrive at a place called Le Lia.
Turn left onto the path between the fields, pass a house on your left and reach a grassy path (viewpoint over the coastline towards Moguériec and the old castle dovecote).
(18) Turn right onto a narrow grassy strip between two fields, then walk along the wall surrounding Kérouzéré Castle. Ignore the access road to Veuleri farm and continue along the wall on the right, pass a farm and turn left to reach the castle entrance gate (view of the castle and grounds, admission fee since 2025)
(19) Continue straight ahead, cross the road at the stop sign and continue straight ahead, following the sign for Kersaliou. Leave the dead-end road leading to a farm (sign) on your left and follow the small road to the right. Pass an old cross on its double granite base and the entrance to the Kersaliou property.
(1) Turn right onto the old railway line (opposite direction to the start of the route) and arrive at a small road which you follow to the left.
Cross the D10 ( take care), continue straight ahead along Rue de La Croix, then turn left downhill into Rue de Déportés. Leave Rue des Lavoirs on your left and continue along the road that climbs back towards the town centre (sports hall on your right). At the last crossroads, note the Christianised menhir on your left bearing the republican inscription "RF", a reminder of 1789 to 1889. Return to the car park on your left (S/E).
