Tour of the island of Sieck (Enes Siek) to Santec

Start at the car park on Rue de Poulguégen (limited to vehicles under 2 m in height).

(S/E) Head towards the sea, turn left and walk past a restaurant terrace to reach Place du Dossen.

(1) Head down to the beach and make your way towards the island, keeping a rocky outcrop on your right. Reach the foot of the island.

(2) Follow the coastal path with a lovely view of Dossen Beach.

(3) Pass the return path on your right and head towards the jetty of the small harbour where a few boats are moored.

(4) Climb up the embankment and continue round the island on the ‘sea’ side, with views of the coast and the beaches of Cléder, then of the Île de Batz.

(5) When the coastal path ends, turn right at a 90° angle and head inland until you rejoin the coastal path on the other side of the island.

(3) Follow the route back in the opposite direction to leave the island. On leaving, you can either continue along the beach or return to the starting point (S/E).

The car park along the coast (Rue de Poulgueguen) fills up quickly; otherwise, try Rue de Sieck, Rue de Pount ar C'Hantel or Place du Dossen (access closed in summer).

The times when the island is accessible are indicated, at least for the current month, on the information boards on the left before heading down to the beach: the island is surrounded by water for around 5 hours centred on high tide. You must therefore have finished the walk 2½ hours before high tide or wait 2½ hours after high tide to venture there. As this 2½-hour window may vary depending on weather conditions, allow a little leeway; otherwise, you’ll get your calves wet or, worse still, have to wait 5 hours for the return journey. It is clearly stated at the entrance to the island that you must take precautions, as no ‘rescue’ is available.

The island is private, so it is important to stay on the coastal path which circles almost the entire island (more of a loop than a full circuit).

Île de Sieck
The large Dossen beach is ideal for walks, swimming (green algae in summer), water sports (surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, kayaking, etc.) and sand yachting.

Out of season at weekends, and every day in season, there are three bars and restaurants at Dossen.

The light from the Île Vierge lighthouse is visible from the north-western tip of Île de Sieck, provided you’re there at night, and that of the Île de Batz lighthouse too, but unless it’s foggy, you can see it with the naked eye in broad daylight!
