Coastline, countryside and villages of thatched cottages between Trégunc and Névez

This hike between land and sea offers two very different atmospheres.
One is the coastline and the customs officers' path along the cliffs and beaches of Tahiti, Raguénez, Dourveil and Kersidan.
The other is along sunken paths and quiet little roads winding through the countryside between the hamlets and thatched cottages of Tréhubert, Kercanic, Trémorvézen and Kerascoêt.

Description of the walk

Park at the Raguénez car park at the end of Rue des Îles.

(S/E) Walk up this street for a few dozen metres and turn left to join theGR®34. Follow it and pass Dourveil Beach. Continue towards Kersidan Beach and leave theGR®34on the right for a small road called Chemin des Sables (picnic table on the left).

(1) Follow it to the intersection with Rue de la Corniche. Cross it carefully and take Impasse des Petites Roches opposite. It continues along a path that leads to Impasse du Paradis and then to a crossroads.

(2) Turn left at the crossroads onto a stony path called Hent ar Baradoz (the Path to Paradise), pass the buildings of a former holiday camp and go around a pretty house on the right.

(3) Turn right at the corner of a chicken coop and continue along this path, which leads to a small road in the village of Tréhubert (Tréhuber on IGN). At the next crossroads, turn left then right and continue along a small road called Hent Laez Dachenn until you reach a group of beautiful thatched cottages. Retrace your steps for a few metres and turn left onto a fairly inconspicuous path.

(4) Continue along this slightly downhill path, pass behind a group of houses and continue to an intersection that does not appear on the 1:25,000 IGN maps.

(5) Follow the path to the left to cross the Ruisseau de Dourveil stream via a footbridge and climb up a path that continues to the right and then to the left along the edge of fields until you reach the intersection with a gravel path. Turn right onto this path, which becomes a small road leading up to the village of Kercanic.

(6) Continue straight ahead through a beautiful cluster of perfectly restored thatched cottages. Turn left onto a path at a cottage with red doors and shutters, undoubtedly the most photographed in Kercanic. Turn left at the next intersection and continue along a gravel path that joins Rue des Pommiers. Follow this road and then turn right onto a small road. Continue along this road until you reach a picnic area.

(7) Turn right onto the path after the picnic area and follow it along the edge of the fields to Impasse de Mouettes. Continue left to the crossroads with Rue des Îles.

(8) Cross it carefully, turn left for a few metres until you reach a crossroads with a cross, then turn right and continue towards Kerstalen. Continue along this small street, ignore a street on the right before reaching a path on the left. Follow it to reach the intersection with Rue de Iris.

(9) Turn right onto this street, then right again at the first path you come to. Follow it, ignoring all the paths on the right, then turn left onto a path that becomes a small road before reaching the village of Trémorvézen.

(10) Turn left for a detour to the chapel of Trémorvézen before retracing your steps and continuing towards the village of Kerliou. Continue along the street and turn left, then left again into a cul-de-sac which continues as a path and leads to the centre of the village of Kerascoët.

(11) Follow a cycle path called "La Névézienne" on the right. Continue straight ahead to reach theGR®34.

(12) Turn right onto theGR®34and follow it back to the starting point via the beaches of Tahiti and Raguénez. On the way, note a tree carved with a smiling face on the right, then a bitter wall (S/E).

Notes

Please note: during hunting season, battues (hunts) are sometimes organised around Kercanic.

Between points (4) and (6), the trails can be very muddy in winter or after heavy rain. Waterproof hiking boots are highly recommended.

The trail is not marked. This is not very useful and can even be confusing, as the route is a succession of unmarked and marked sections where several other walking and cycling routes intersect and criss-cross. Refer to the map and route description or, more simply, the Visorando app.

The customs officers' path can be busy in the summer. It is much quieter once you leave it and head into the countryside.

It is possible to reach Raguénez Island on foot at low tide when the tidal range is high. Be sure to check the tide times before setting off on your adventure.

Alternative starting points are the car parks at Tahiti, Dourveil and Kersidan beaches.

Picnic tables and toilets are available near the main beaches.

Worth a visit

Cliffs, dunes and beaches at Tahiti, Raguénez, Dourveil and Kersidan.

Beautiful views of Pointe de Trévignon, Raguénez Island and Île Verte and, on a clear day, Île de Groix and the Glénan archipelago.

The village and cottages of Tréhubert.
Village and cottages of Kercanic.
Village and cottages of Kerascoët.
Village and thatched cottages of Trémorvézen.

Chapel of Trémorvézen (early 15th century).

Rich architectural heritage (stone houses known as "men zao", bread ovens, wells, fountains and wash houses) in the inland villages.

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.

Good evening

Thank you for your feedback.
I'm glad you didn't encounter any difficulties between 5 and 6.
In the Practical Information section, it is specified that the signage is "confusing because the route is a succession of unmarked sections and marked sections where several other walking or cycling routes intersect and criss-cross".
A map, GPS or the Visorando app are recommended for this route.

Hello, I find the explanations quite accurate. The problem is that we are often on sections of
existing routes that should not be followed. So you have to be careful. No problems between markers 5 and 6.
I did this route again on 10 April with a group of hikers, who thought it was magnificent. It's true
that the sun was shining.

Very beautiful hike along the coastal path and past the thatched cottages in the countryside.
Please note that the signposting between 5 and 6 is unclear on the ground.

Great route, easy to follow. I set off from Tahiti beach, with beautiful weather and stunning views of the green island and
Raguenès. The thatched cottages of Tréhubert, Kercanic (the most beautiful) and Kerascoët, vestiges of a bygone era
worth seeing. Although I'm from the area (Morbihan), I discovered some new paths.
Thank you for this beautiful hike.

Good description. Very pleasant hike. Ar mor ar goat, both ocean and land, both coastal path and sunken lanes, chapel, thatched cottages, picnic area. Follow the directions in the description carefully; do not rely on the PR signs on this path, which are for other routes. The weather was fine, which added to the enjoyment.

A very beautiful route, both along the coast and inland.
Discovering all these villages with thatched cottages (we only knew Kerascoêt) and the little paths we took added to the interest of the route. Very little tarmac.
Thank you for allowing us to discover all these unspoilt little places!
