Around Avesnes-le-Sec

Park in the car park behind the town hall in Avesnes-le-Sec, Rue du Calvaire.

(S/E)Opposite the town hall, at the junction with Rue Rouget-de-Lisle, turn left onto Rue du Calvaire. Follow this road, then take the third turning on the right (Chemin des Culs-nus) under the high-voltage powerlines .

(1) Continue straight ahead on Chemin des Culs-nus, ignoring the junctions on the right and then on the left. At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead until you reach the D74.

(2) Cross the D74 and take the new road opposite. At the junction with Rue Albert Calmette (D81), turn left and follow the road. At Lieu-Saint-Amand, at the first crossroads, turn left onto Rue Jean Jaurès, then quickly turn right onto Chemin du Maréchal Leclerc. Continue without taking any side roads until you reach the roundabout.

(3) At the roundabout, turn right onto Rue de l'Église. At the next roundabout, continue straight ahead, ignoring the street on your left. At the fork with Rue Armand Dorge, take the right-hand branch. Ignore another fork on the left and, at the 90° bend, follow the path that leads to Rue Louis Pasteur.

(4) Turn right and then immediately take the first street on the left (Rue Charles Dupas). Continue on Sentier Hector Dupas, which is a direct extension of the street.

(5) At the corner of the cemetery, on Rue Gustave Ansart, take the left-hand lane. Do not take the streets on the right and continue until you pass under a high-voltage power line. You will then arrive at the Chemin des Culs-nus crossroads.

(6) Stay on the same road until you reach Chemin de Bouchain, where you will turn right. At the junction with Chemin de la Turquerie, continue straight ahead to reach Noyelles-sur-Selle.

(7) At Rue de la Gare, turn left onto Rue de la Turquerie, ignore the fork on the right, then, at the next crossroads, turn left onto Rue de la Place. At the fork, follow Rue du Cul-de-Sac on the right, cross the bridge over the Selle, then join the path that leads to the town hall.

(8) From the town hall, take Rue du Pont on the right, cross the Selle, then turn left onto Grand’Rue. Do not follow any of the side roads and, at the end, turn left onto Rue du Marais.

(9) Continue along Rue du Marais until you reach a 90° bend, where you will turn onto Chemin de Fleury.

(10) On your left, pass the water treatment plant and, a few metres before a high-voltage power line, turn right. Follow this road to the D81, turn right, then at the next junction, take the D449 on the left for about 100 m. Leave it by turning left onto Chemin des Treize.

(11) Follow it to the left, ignoring another turn-off. At the riding school, take the right-hand branch to return to Avesnes-le-Sec. On Rue Jean Moulin, turn right and continue to the next junction.

(12) Turn left onto Rue de Glatigny. Continue straight ahead until you reach the town hall of Avesnes-le-Sec, the end of your loop. (S/E)

The route is easy but not signposted. The terrain is earth, grass, cobblestones, pebbles and tarmac. Wear suitable footwear.
