Description of the route

Departure from Place de la Mairie in Marcq.

Mountain bike trail no. 23

(S/E) From the town hall square, head to the right of the town hall, Rue d'Orthez, and reach a four-way crossroads.

(1) Turn left onto the D42, cross the old Marcq railway station, go over the bridge above the Aire river and arrive at Saint-Juvin.

(2) Cross the road and continue straight ahead on Rue de la Marne, climbing up to the church. When you reach the church, turn right onto Rue de la Cordillière and leave the village. Stay on the D55 for about 2 km and look for a path on the right about 100 metres after passing a wood on your left.

(3) Take this path on the right and continue straight ahead until you reach a T-junction and a park fence. Turn left onto the grassy path that descends to the village of Sommerance.

(4) At the end of the path, turn left towards the village. Drive through the village towards the church and, when you reach it, make a wide left turn to follow the D4 towards Landres.

(5) In Landres, turn immediately right at the monument, then right again towards the church. Continue along Rue de la Folie until you reach No. 7. Then turn right onto Chemin de la Musarde. At the Musarde farm, continue straight ahead until you reach the crossroads. Turn left and you will soon reach a track on the right at the monument.

(6) Take this track and enter the Ariethal National Forest. Descend several hairpin bends and arrive at a three-way junction.

(7) Turn left and continue until you reach another intersection with a grassy path on the right. Take this path, pass under the Ariethal Viaduct and you will arrive at a crossroads.

(8) Continue straight on to Exermont. Cross the village, passing in front of the church, then rejoin the D142 towards Grandpré and reach the D946.

(9) First turn right then left onto the D142 towards Châtel-Chéhéry. Pass in front of Chéhéry Abbey, then turn right at the crossroads.

(10) At the campsite, at the corner of No. 5, turn right onto the white gravel path and climb up towards the Château de Châtel-Chéhéry.

(11) In front of the castle, turn left, go up the main street Laloy Chenet, pass in front of the church, arrive at a low wall and go up to the right at the corner of No. 2.

(12) At the crossroads, continue climbing up the small road on the right towards Le Perroquet. Pass an intersection with the GR®14 on your left, then you will come to a large crossroads.

(13) Turn right at the picnic area junction and stay on the forest road. At the four-way junction, go straight ahead and join the three-way junction that follows.

(14) Continue along the central grassy path, pass the forest barrier and continue to the Besogne ponds. Stay on this path until you reach the church in Chevières.

(15) Turn right onto Rue Principale, pass the cemetery and the tomb of aviator Coolidge. Leave the village and follow the D342. In Marcq, stay on the main road and continue to Place de la Mairie (S/E).
