From Clermont-Ferrand, take the A75 towards Montpellier, then exit 5. Follow the signs for Saint-Amant-Tallende on the D213 and quickly turn left onto the D795 to reach the centre of Tallende. Parking spaces are available near the town hall.
Please note that this guide partly follows the local "Les Vergers de Tallende (Balirando)" signposts, but the route varies in places, particularly at the start of the walk and towards Saint-Amant.
(S/E) From the car park near the town hall, head south on Rue de la Mairie, then turn left onto Rue des Fours. Walk straight ahead until you reach a square, then follow Rue Émile Pailler to the right. Take the first left, then turn right onto a path that joins another street, Rue des Félines, which you should follow to the end.
(1) Turn right onto Rue des Rivières, then take the first left. Continue along this street, which becomes a path as you leave the village.
(2) At the T-junction with a path, turn right and cross a bridge over the Veyre. Ignore a path on the right, then cross a bridge over the Monne.
(3) At the T-junction, turn right.
(4) At the corner of the greenhouses, turn right and cross the Monne again. Take the first path on the left (before the bridge over the Veyre).
(5) At the intersection opposite the sports fields, cross the street and follow it to the left. At the bridge over the Monne, follow the path that branches off to the right.
(6) At the next intersection (information sign about the orchards), turn onto the path on the right. Ignore the first path on the right and take the next one.
(7) Continue straight ahead, leaving the "Vergers de Tallende" signposts behind and ignoring the path on the left, then a second one, then one on the right, until you reach Saint-Amant-Tallende, at an intersection just before the bridge over the Monne.
(8) Picnic tables and benches below, near the river, on either side of the bridge, wash houses. Beautiful views of the Château de Murol in Saint-Amant (private property, not to be confused with the feudal castle of Murol). It is of course possible to visit the village, but the visit is not part of this guide (see Things to see).
After enjoying the site, with your back to the river, leave the path you arrived on to your left and follow the path that climbs to the right. Further up, you will come to a crossroads with four paths.
(9) Turn left. At the fork in the path, keep to the right.
(10) Continue straight ahead at the crossroads, following the "Vergers de Tallende" signs again. Further on, turn left, leaving the main path.
(11) At the T-junction, turn left, then take the first path on the right. Take the path on the left at the next crossroads to reach the junction you passed on the way there (information board about the orchards).
(6) Continue straight ahead on the reverse route of the outward journey to the sports grounds.
(5) Continue straight ahead to reach the centre of Tallende. Take the road slightly to the right at the roundabout, cross the Veyre river and continue straight ahead. At the church, turn right to find the small car park near the town hall (S/E).
