Start from the small car park in Beaumazet, on the edge of the D420.
(S/E) Carefully follow the RD120 on the right (shoulders) for about 1 km.
(1) Take the small road on the right going up towards the hamlet of Taphanel. Walk past the house and continue north on the path that extends this small road. Cross the intermittent Taphanel stream, which can be rough after rain.
(2) Join a track and follow it to the right, heading north-north-west.
(3) Leave the track on the left, which leads to the Vesseaux farm, and continue on the track on the right. The properties on either side of the track are fenced in.
(4) Reach the Serre du Clos mast and head north-west towards Col de Gilhac.
(5) Cross the hamlet of Rouretord (which means "twisted oak" in the local dialect) and continue along the track heading north.
(6) When you reach the Grange mast, turn right towards Col de Gilhac. Continue along this track to the hamlet of Boussenac, cross it along the campsite, then the houses, and join the D21, the Vernoux road.
(7) Cross the road, turn left then right onto the small road (or old local road) to Sarzier, which you follow until the next junction with the D266.
(8) At the Prat mast: follow theGR®42opposite, towards Col de Gilhac. You will overlook the road on your right.
(9) At Col de Gilhac, turn right towards Pierregourde. Follow the track to the Chastan mast.
(10) Turn left at the sharp angle towards Boulon and climb up a very steep and rugged path to reach the summit of Serre de Girbaud.
(11) Descend via the same route.
(10) Continue along the track to the left and you will find a wide path on the right that climbs up to the ruined castle of Pierregourde (safety signs).
(12) Descend to the track at the Pierregourde castle mast.
(13) Descend opposite in a southerly direction and reach the Pierregourde mast.
(14) Leave theGR®42and take the track on the right towards Beaumazet car park. Pass between the farm buildings.
(15) Reach the junction with the path leading to the Sablière farm, leave the track and descend to the right along a narrow, very rugged path which you must not leave (be careful of false starts to dead-end paths).
(16) When you reach the Boinier mast, take the narrow path on the left that runs alongside the Crotte stream gorges, before joining a track that descends to Bégouier.
(17) Reach the junction with theGR®42. Turn right towards Beaumazet, follow the small road that joins the D120, then turn right to reach the car park, the starting point (S/E).
