In Saint-Laurent-du-Pape, park in the small Baumazet car park, where the hike starts, indicated by an information sign.
(S/E) From the car park, walk uphill until you reach the first signpost for theGR®42and follow Pierre Gourde.
(1) Turn right and continue along the road before quickly leaving it by turning left at the signpost indicatingGR®42.
Once you have passed this marker, continue along this path, which is wide enough for a car, climbing gently until you come to a sign saying "Protégeons la nature" (Protect nature). The path then narrows and leads to a crossroads.
(2) At this crossroads, continue climbing to the left and go straight ahead at the next intersection.
Next comes a three-way junction which leads to the same trail in any case, but it is easier to turn left and then right at the next three-way junction.
Continue on the fairly wide path (or cut right through the tall grass to join a narrower path that climbs quite steeply). Turn right and then left onto a narrow path before coming to another signpost.
(3) From the signpost, turn right towards Pierre Gourde, which leads to a new narrow and steep path. Continue until you reach a path wide enough for a car, where you will find a signpost.
(4) Follow the direction of Col de Rotisson and leave the wide path to go left towards the castle. To reach the ruins, the path to take is more like flattened grass dotted with a few brambles to avoid. Once you reach the ruins and even a little above them, you can enjoy the incredible view.
(5) Turn around and, after descending, find the last signpost on the path.
(4) Turn right towards Saint-Laurent-du-Pape via Baumazet car park and you will come to another signpost near some buildings. Continue in the same direction to the right, following the 6.3 km sign. The path then descends for quite a while.
(6) Next comes the last signpost, where you should follow the path indicated at 5.3 km, turning left. The path then becomes increasingly narrow, just wide enough for one person.
(7) Cross the Fontjalla stream, which is dry in summer (logs allow you to cross if there is water), then you will find yourself not far from a private property that you will need to go around. Follow the path, which will continue to descend to the small road.
(1) Follow this road straight ahead to the car park (S/E).
