Start: Place Stanislas, Bruyères.
Red Ring markings
(S/E) Turn right under the arbour and walk past the bandstand. Continue straight ahead then turn left towards the Caves de l’Avison (where you can sample the Bonne Bière de Bruyères).
(1) Continue straight on to reach the foot of the Avison, which rises up before you.
(2) Take the road on the left and leave Bruyères. Continue straight on along the forest road.
(3) After the clearing, take the track and then the path on the left towards Pointhaie. At the bottom of the path, turn right and walk alongside the fishing pond, then keep straight on past the recreational lake to reach the road.
(4) Turn right and, just after the house, turn sharply right again onto the path that climbs towards Pointhaie (look up to find the sign). You will reach a four-way junction.
(5) Continue towards the rocks, climbing the winding path in front of you.
(6) After a few hairpin bends, you’ll pass the first rock. Continue climbing for another 50 metres.
You are at the foot of the Roches de Pointhaie (a climbing site at an altitude of 517 metres, with a view over the valley).
Walk alongside the rocks and continue along the path on the ridge. Begin the descent, keeping straight ahead. Look out in front of you and to your right for the panoramic view of Bruyères and the surrounding hills. Continue downwards.
(5) At the crossroads you have already passed, take the path opposite, towards Vervezelle. Notice, beneath your feet, the red sand resulting from the decomposition of the pink sandstone typical of the Vosges. Continue straight down to the road. Turn right and carry on straight ahead to reach Bruyères and Place Stanislas (S/E).
