Start: Domfaing Town Hall.
Markings: Yellow Ring
(S/E) Take Rue de la Côte, opposite the town hall. After the last house and before entering the forest, enjoy the view of the village. Continue uphill.
(1) When you reach the forest path, turn left. Soon, leave it to climb up to the right. Enjoy the views of the villages in the valley and take a short break.
Just after arriving on the plateau, a small detour will take you to a pretty viewpoint. Continue to the Col de l'Augraye.
(2) If you wish to continue on loop 2: continue for 100 m.
Otherwise, loop 1: take the path on the right and join the forest track
(3) Then, at the intersection, take the forest path on the left towards the Croix de Machiefour.
(4) Here, turn right. You will arrive at the Croix de Machiefour crossroads.
(5) If you wish to continue on loop 3: take the forest path on the left for 50 m, then take the path on the right until you reach the Croix de Frésimont.
Otherwise, for loop 2: take the path on the right and join the Augraye.
You are now on the ridge trail. Here you will discover a viewpoint over Pimpierre à Bois de Champ, Roche de Pain de Poire (a sandstone conglomerate) and a jumble of rocks with a magnificent view of the valley and the Lorraine plateau on a clear day. In autumn, you will be enchanted by the holly trees adorned with red berries.
(6) You will come to a forest road (Chemin de la Paix et de la Liberté), which you take to the right. You will immediately see the Croix de Frésimont and continue to the crossroads of the Croix Thomas, which overlooks the Roche des Poires Sèches.
(7) Before this rock, take the descent on the right (towards the Croix du Riche).
(8) Here, a sign invites you to follow the track to the right.
"Leave the access to the Croix du Riche on your left."
Turn right and you will find the Croix de Machiefour about 2.5 km further on.
(5) At the crossroads you have already passed, turn left onto the ridge path and, after a descent, you will be back at Augraye.
(3) Continue straight ahead for 100 m.
(2) Then continue left towards Domfaing. This is a pretty path along the edge of a cliff lined with magnificent Scots pines.
(9) Don't miss the descent on the left that takes you back to the start (S/E).
