Starting point: Place Stanislas de Bruyères.
(S/E) Take the passage under the trees and walk along the bandstand to reach the opposite corner.
(1) Head towards Belmont via Rue Jean Lurçat. Walk alongside the Musée d'Art Populaire de Bruyères (Henri Mathieu Museum). Note that it is located in the former synagogue, now a listed building.
(2) When you reach Place du Commandant Flesch, continue straight ahead. After 50 metres, you will pass the hospital. Then turn left onto Rue de l'Avison. Walk along the cemetery and its military plot. Continue straight ahead towards the Avison, which stands in front of you.
(3) You are now at the foot of the Avison. Turn left onto the path that climbs uphill (a barrier prevents vehicles from passing). After a twenty-minute climb, you will arrive at the foot of the watchtower.
As you climb, observe how the vegetation changes with the change in direction. A few blueberry bushes (called "brimbelles") also dot the slopes of the Avison.
(4) Just a little more effort to climb the few steps that separate you from a remarkable view of the area. A 360° panorama awaits you. In good weather, you can see the peaks of the Vosges (use the orientation table to identify them).
To return, take the path in the opposite direction to Place Stanislas (S/E).
Alternative: there are numerous paths criss-crossing the Avison. You can take these to descend. However, some of them have steps.
