Description of the walk

The starting point is the village of Peyrus, at the church.

(S/E) Cross the village heading east (Grande Rue); at the "Peyrus" signpost, head towards Pas du Touet.
Red/white marked section (GR® 93)

After a fork, theGR® crosses the D468 and reaches the Ravin des Chichats.

(1) At Les Chichats, leave the road via a good path on the right. A few hundred metres further on, theGR® joins a track; after a nice straight stretch, when the track splits in two, take the path opposite (Chemin des Moines). After more than an hour of climbing, sometimes more sustained and with a few hairpin bends, you will arrive at Pas du Touet (signpost).

(2) Continue straight ahead towards "Léoncel". The path continues eastwards, winding its way between meadows and box trees to reach the Route de Combe Chaude. Go through the fence (reposition the string behind you).

Unmarked section

(3) Turn right onto the road and proceed with caution. Continue straight ahead on the road until you reach the D68 (Route de Peyrus to Col des Limouches).

(4) Turn right.
On this section, the path follows or crosses the road for over a kilometre. Take great care. The shortcuts may be more or less visible depending on the season and vegetation. If you cannot find them, you can continue along the road (longer route).

(5) In the next left-hand bend, pay attention and take a small path on the right (first hairpin bend).

(6) About 300 m further on, you will come to a well-marked path. Turn right and head for the paragliding take-off area (beautiful view of the Rochers du Ranc). Retrace your steps and rejoin the D68 road. Turn right and continue along the road for about 200 m. Find a second hairpin bend (path more or less visible on the right).

(7) Go through the fence (respect any livestock present, depending on the season) and follow it westwards for about 200 m before turning further south towards the road and the ruins of Gaudemart visible below. Join the road at a left-hand bend; 200 m further on, find a third shortcut on the right (path not very visible).

(8) Take this path and, when you reach the road, take the path opposite leading to the field. Before the fence, you will find the fourth shortcut on the right. A little further on, this shortcut overlooks the road (safety measure to prevent rockfalls). After 400 metres, you will arrive at the road at the orientation table. Walk up the road for about 20 metres to find the start of the fifth cut-off on the left (old wider path, small cairn).

(9) This final switchback joins the road rather abruptly.

(10) Walk up the D68 on the left for a few metres and you will find a good path on the right leading down towards the west. After about 800 m in the woods, you will come to the left of the path (not marked on maps) coming from the Pont des Sarrasins. Continue straight ahead.

Section marked in yellow

(11) About 200 metres further on, at the signpost for "Fontaine du Corbeau", turn right towards "Tourrier" and "Châteaudouble". A few hundred metres before the village, you will come to a junction with the access road to Château Rompu (signpost). Continue downhill. At the signpost for "Tourrier", turn right towards "Peyrot".

Blue/orange marked section

(12) The path goes around the base of Château Rompu: for the first 200 metres, ignore a first path on the right, then on the left. As the path turns east, at the next fork, take the left-hand path.

(13) The path then descends onto a large track: turn left here and head west.

(14) After 500 metres, take the path on the right towards Panaret and pass through this hamlet.

(15) At the next fork, you can take the path on the left to admire the castle, which is about a hundred metres away. Otherwise, turn right. Continue straight ahead and you will reach Peyrus (Rue du Banc du Conseil). (S/E)

The route took 4½ hours to complete. As many people had mentioned, there were unmarked sections from the descent onwards, particularly to cut across the Limouches hairpin bends. But with the Visorando app and GPS, it was easy to follow the route. Otherwise, it was a lovely walk in beautiful weather with no wind, which is important.

The route is fairly easy to follow throughout. The descriptions of the shortcuts are precise enough to locate them, and by observing the surroundings, you can find them in the different areas except between points 7 and 8, where you sometimes have to make your own way. There are no markings in these areas.
This route remains very pleasant with magnificent views at Pas du Touet and the paragliding launch site, which is a perfect picnic spot to rest. As a bonus, you can see ibex grazing peacefully.
The route is very busy up to the Pas du Touet and less so afterwards.

Far too much traffic on the road, the route through the hairpin bends is really complicated.

Well marked up to the paragliding launch area, then no markings; very difficult to find the paths even with the Visiorando GPS point and

From point 8 onwards, the path is not clear.
If you decide to take it anyway: the last few metres (just after the rockfall safety measures) the path has collapsed and is no longer passable - AND YOU CANNOT REACH THE ROAD §

Done in beautiful weather. Easy climb. Then a small road before taking the "hairpin bends". Not always easy to find. We took a wrong turn and crossed a field, getting told off by a farmer who was passing by. If the path isn't marked, it doesn't exist, he told us. Two small passages were a bit risky. Especially the arrival on the road, which required caution. Must be very slippery if it rains. Then we reached a good path. Chateau Rompu is well worth a visit. Peaceful return to Peyrus.
Picnic at the paragliding take-off area, with superb views.

At an altitude above 1,000 metres, we found ourselves in the clouds and were unable to find the trail on the right in the pastures or see the cross mentioned in the description. We ended up using the GPS on our phone.

The return journey along the narrow paths is a bit difficult.
I took a wrong turn and ended up in the fields, and a farmer told me off, saying that if the path isn't marked, you shouldn't take it.
There's a slight difficulty at another point where the path joins the road, requiring a small step. It can be slippery in wet weather.
Very large rocks after the orientation table at point 796. Orientation table where there is nothing left. Otherwise, the return trip is beautiful through the oak forest. Nice view towards Château Rompu (worth seeing).
Picnic at the paragliding launch site with a magnificent view.

Hello,

We completed this excellent route in 4 hours and 20 minutes. The route can be described as challenging, not only because of the climb up to Pas du Touet, but also because of the descent, which is particularly surprising in its first section (sharp bends on the Col des Limouches). The shortcuts are difficult to find and the condition of the paths is poor to very poor (lots of dead trees blocking the path). The descriptions do not always correspond to reality (small cairn, in reality three stones under the vegetation). What to make of the orientation table, which is more of a place to sign your name! I think that for shortcuts two, three and four, the road, even if it is a little longer, does not take any longer. Be careful at the start of the trail after the shortcuts, which has had to be rebuilt with large stones and is very steep.

Apart from these comments, the route is very beautiful with excellent views of the Rhône valley and the arrival on the plateau after the Pas du Touet. Well done to the designer.

Hike with beautiful views. A few sections on the Col des Limouches road: a shame that these cannot be avoided. We found the hairpin bends, but the second one disappeared in the middle of the route due to vegetation. The GPS track was very helpful.

Hike completed on 25 May in beautiful weather. For the ascent: Chemin des Moines, much appreciated in this heat! However, the descent via the hairpin bends was not at all visible, with lots of vegetation. Fortunately, we had our GPS devices. Not recommended until they have been cleared! Quite dangerous when you reach the road, especially the last two!On the other hand, there were some very beautiful views: the paragliding site, the ruins of Château Rompu, and the view of Châteaudouble. We didn't meet anyone except on the Chemin des Moines.
Not really recommended at the moment! Varied paths, as you say! We are happy with this hike, which took us off the beaten track!

A breath of fresh air after the COVID lockdown.
But what a crowd all the way to Pas du Touet! There was a great need for nature.
The lace cutters are really on unlikely and not very well marked routes, but hey, we'll find our way!
Thanks to the author.
