In Bidarray, cross the Nive and a few metres further on, cross the Bastan and follow this small road to the right for just over 4 km. Park at the Harruixea farm
according to a message posted by a hiker on 30/12/2019, the owner of the Bernatenea farm prohibits passage in front of his house. This hiker indicates that there is a path on the left, 150 m before the farm, which rejoins the described hike. I asked for clarification. I received two replies confirming this. The owner apparently marked out this new detour himself, without any difficulty. I have modified the GPS route approximately as it was not done on site.
Since summer 2021, according to some hikers, parking is prohibited along the road. Park at the end of the road near the Harruixea farm (few spaces available)
(S/E) Go back down the road on two hairpin bends to the Berntenea farm. 150 m further down, take a new path on the left to go around the farm. This path quickly joins the track shown on the original route. After passing a sheepfold, you will come to a stream.
(1) Cross it and pass over a second sheepfold. A few metres further on, the track veers to the left and you take a path opposite. This path follows a contour line. You reach a bridge and follow the track along a low wall. At the end, with a large tree in the middle and a cairn, you are at the start of the Chemin des Moines.
(2) The path is unmarked but clearly indicated, first by a dirt track and then by slabs and steps. The path is sometimes vertiginous but safe when climbing. You will arrive at the end of the Chemin des Moines.
(3) Turn slightly to the right. You will come to an enclosure and, at the end of it, a cross path which you take to the right, heading east and then north-east until you reach the Erreka stream.
(4) From here, there are several possible paths. Take the path furthest to the right, closest to the cliffs where vultures nest. The path first heads south-east, then east towards a small pass. Continue to another small pass. Here, on the right, a red dirt path branches off to the right, leading to a viewpoint with a ruin.
(5) Turn completely left, heading north, and follow a path on the hillside, descending slightly to join theGR®®10.
(6) Take it on the right; it is marked in red and white. ¹
Be careful on this section: theGR®® is vertiginous but safe if you watch where you put your feet. You will arrive at the cave of the Saint who sweats.
(7) Continue along theGR®® 10 until you reach the road.
(8) Go down the road and after three bends you will reach the car park next to the Bernatenea farm (S/E).
