Access: leave the D14 and head towards Chartreuse de la Verne; a hundred metres further on, there is a car park on your right, at a place called La Croix d'Anselme.
(S/E) Leave the car park and take the tarmac road (closed to traffic) on the left when coming from the charterhouse. Stay on this road, heading west then south-west.
(1) At a crossroads, continue straight ahead (south-west). Cross a gully and continue uphill above the Vallon de Lambert. Cross another gully (elevation 422) and head east. Make a loop to the right near the Retenue de Lambert.
(2) Leave the paved road by taking the track on the left and cross a stream. At the fork that appears immediately, take the right-hand track and climb up the Verne under some magnificent chestnut trees (please note that picking is prohibited!).
(3) Ignore the path on the left and continue along the track. Pass a sheepfold (be sure to keep your dogs on a leash as the gate is often open). Then walk along a large meadow on the right where Douglas firs also grow.
(4) At the crossroads, turn right to temporarily rejoin a paved road (eucalyptus trees on the left side of the road).
(5) After about 200 metres, you will see a gate on the right, in the fence (which may be electrified). Go through this gate (close it behind you) and go into the meadow where you can see two granite blocks emerging from the ground: these are the menhirs. Retrace your steps (don't forget to close the gate behind you).
(5) Continue along the track, which soon turns right (north-east), following the meadow until you reach a forest house (with a huge chestnut tree stump right next to it).
(6) Go around the house on the left and take the dirt track. Stay on the track, ignoring the side tracks. You will come to two three-way junctions, but it doesn't matter which path you take as they meet up a few metres further on.
(1) Return to the paved road you started on, take the hairpin turn to the left and descend towards the car park (S/E).
