The menhirs of the Côte Sauvage South of Quiberon

A walk through urban areas, then along the coast, dotted with small heritage sites such as menhirs and wash houses, with pretty views along the way.

Description of the walk

Park in the La Côte Sauvage car park on the south side, just after the Quiberon exit sign, with the coast on your left.

(S/E) Head towards the north exit of the car park. After the gate, turn immediately right. Follow Rue des Sardiniers on the left and, further on, turn onto the dirt track. Continue until you reach Rue du Vivier. Note two standing stones on the left-hand side of the road. Follow the street to the right towards Manémeur.

(1) On the square, you will see a menhir enclosed in a flowerbed on the left. Go around it and follow Rue du Lavoir to the end. The tarmac road becomes a wide dirt track as it crosses the moor, then the tarmac resumes at the entrance to Kergallo, Allée Claude Dervenn.

(2) At the tarmac, continue straight ahead and cross Rue Jean-Pierre Calloch. Turn right, cross Rue des Quatre Vents and take it on the left. At the roundabout, cross Rue de Chateaubriand, then Rue de Kerné, and then continue on Chemin Hent Barr Aven. The track crosses meadows and greenhouses and ends on Route de Kernavest.

(3) Cross the road and walk straight ahead, then at the crossroads, continue straight on until you reach the X-shaped junction. Take the left fork and head for the old semaphore.

(4) Tour de Locmaria and its viewpoint. Enjoy the view and continue along Allée du Sémaphore, then leave it by following the curve to the right. At the three-way junction, veer right and, in the curve of Rue de la Pompe, take the left to cross Rue de Kerniscob. A sign for Boucle de Quiberon, Route de la Mer is posted on the right.

(5) Turn right, walk a few metres past the last house on your left and you will find a grassy path starting between a cluster of trees and a patch of ferns. Take the path and, at the T-junction, first turn right then left. Continue to the T-junction and turn left. Skirt a car park and end up on the tarmac, Rue du Guibello.

(6) Turn right, then cross the Route Côtière very carefully. Go down the small path that leads to the wash house. Walk along it on the left and access the coastal path on the side with the steps.
Walk along the path towards the south. Pass another wash house, then go past the Trou du Souffleur and the Vivier car park and touch the menhir that follows. Reach the Allée Couverte de la Pointe des Guerrite.

(7) Explore the area, then continue on your way for about a hundred metres. Cross Boulevard de la Côte Sauvage very carefully to return to the La Côte Sauvage car park (S/E).

A very pleasant and varied route that allows you to discover both part of the wild coastline and the monuments inland. I am not rating the ease of following the route because I followed the GPX track rather than the description. We also started from the ferry terminal, which allowed us to pass by Turpault Castle, and we finished at the Port-Maria lighthouse, adding a little over 1.5 km to the route.
Thank you for this work 👍

Hiking in December on the Quiberon peninsula is fantastic! Sometimes you feel like you're alone in the world.
Even if we didn't find the covered walkway either.

A very well-organised hike with a GPS, so very easy to follow.
A varied walk through the countryside and along the coast in glorious sunshine.
However, impossible to find the covered walkway???

Report another menhir, across the street, on the left near the restaurant, after Le Vivier. Note that the Port Guerrite passage tomb is at ground level, to the left of the pile of rocks, near the road.
