Start from the village of Saint-Privat-du-Fau. Parking available below the church.
(S/E) From the car park, head towards the village centre, walking along the church wall on your right. Continue north-west, ignoring the road on the right leading to Paulhac, as well as the successive streets on the left.
(1) On leaving the village, after the barn, continue straight on along the road. After a steep climb, the road gives way to a wide track. Continue along this track until you reach the small stream Valat du Villard, which you must cross.
(2) At the next bend, ignore the first path on the left, continue southwards, then leave this wide track by taking the second path turning north.
(3) After a few dozen metres, turn right. Pass under the high-voltage power line, then turn right again at the fork. Continue uphill through the woods and join the wide GRP Tour de la Margeride track.
(4) Then take thisGRP® track downhill to the left, heading west towards Cros de Maury.
(5) When you reach it, just before a hairpin bend, leave theGRP® and take a grassy path on the right that leads into the undergrowth. Continue straight up the hill, ignoring the path on the right (GRP®), and join another wide track, which you should follow to the right.
(6) At the next junction, ignore the track on the right leading to the village of Amourettes (note the pretty gazebo at the village entrance) and continue south-west until you reach the road.
(7) Turn left again onto theGRP® and follow the road towards La Vacheresse. At the bend, leave the road and take a path on the right-hand side which leads to the village (GRP® signposted).
(8) At thesecond house on the right, leave theGRP® and follow the road to the left which passes behind a farmhouse. Go round it and continue along a downhill path which crosses a stream and passes under the high-voltage power line again before reaching Le Villard Grand.
(9) Cross the village on the right. Pass the granite cross on your left at the crossroads and turn right again.
When you reach the last houses, leave the road and continue to the right along a path that leads downhill to the road.
(10) Cross over and turn left at the cross, heading towards the hamlet of Le Crouzet. Cross the well-maintained Ruisseau du Villard, turn right between the houses and take thesecond path on the right. Continue along this path, ignoring the first track on the right.
(11) At this junction, turn left onto the track that climbs between the pastures to reach the village of Saint-Privat. Follow this track to the first houses, then skirt the village on the right to return to the starting point (S/E).
