Port de Frahier car park. At the Les Barres crossroads (D619), follow signs for Port de Frahier (D16) towards Champagney and the Champagney basin. Pass under the canal bridge, taking care as it is narrow, and turn left after 50 m.
(S/E) Take the path that runs along the port's riverbank, passing in front of the house and the waterway service hangars. Cross the bridge over the road from Frahier to Champagney.
(1) Cross a second bridge on Rue du Charme, which leads to the Rouges Vifs neighbourhood (remarkable gardens that can be visited by appointment).
Continue straight ahead, passing a path on your left (return) and a bridge on your right, and continue to the next bridge.
(2) Cross Rue des Creuses, turn left for a few metres, then take the first tarmac road on the right to follow the canal again on your right. Pass the farm buildings on your left. The path descends slightly to a crossroads at a bridge (elevation 365).
(3) At the bottom, take the path on the left (leaving the bridge on your right).
You are now on the Chemin des Grands Hauts, known as Chemin Noir (Black Path) because of the materials that used to cover it.
The path climbs gently and steadily, passing buildings that house, among other things, a riding arena for the horses you will probably see in the parks. At the three-way junction after the power line, turn left, ignore a path on the right and continue to the next crossroads.
(4) Turn left at a 90° angle. The tree-lined path climbs slightly and leads to pastures. Continue until you reach the intersection with a road.
You are now at the edge of the village of Frahier, which is on your left.
At the D219a road (Frahier to Errevet), turn left and follow this road.
Be sure to follow the road safety rules. You will arrive at the water tower just before the bus stop.
(5) Take the path on the right that runs through the fields with a view of the Butte d'Étobon, among other things.
At the end of the path, find the canal, turn right and follow it in the opposite direction to the way you came, returning to the Port de Frahier car park (S/E).
