The creutes of Paissy

Park at the junction of Rue Principale and Rue de la Croisette near the fountain.

(S/E) Walk down Rue de la Croisette towards the trees. This turns into a path leading downhill. Follow it to a crossroads.

(1) Turn right, then immediately left, and follow the path on the left. Cross the D888 carefully and continue straight on.

(2) At the Fork in the road, take the Le Vivier path on the left, between the trees.

(3) At the T-junction, turn right along the edge of the woodland. Turn right with the path, still following the edge of the woodland, and ignore a turn-off on the left.

(4) At a fork in the road, turn left onto the path leading up towards the village.

(5) You’ll come out onto Rue de Neuville; follow it as it continues. Pass the town hall and carry on along Rue Principale, which leads back to the fountain (S/E).

The ‘creutes ’:in the Laonnois and Soisonnais regions, the numerous cavities carved out over the centuries in the thick limestone layers of the hills in these areas are known as ‘creutes’ or ‘boves’.
