Description of the walk

Park at the Kerlan Vian swimming pool car park, Avenue des Oiseaux.
Access by bus lines A and P31: Kerlan Vian stop.

Yellow markings

(S/E) With your back to the car park, walk down the avenue on the left-hand pavement and ignore the streets on your left. Just before the entrance to the campsite, cross at the pedestrian crossing and join a wide concrete path that winds sharply to the right.
Follow this path through the woods, ignoring the turnings to the right and left, until you reach a junction.

Unmarked

(1) Turn left, leaving the marked path to continue its ascent.
Start the descent, passing above the municipal campsite, then climb back up through the woods, staying on the same path, until you reach the edge of the woods and rejoin the marked route at a road.

Yellow markings

Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and pass between two buildings. At the end, turn left to take the steps, which you climb on the right (beautiful view of Quimper). Continue by going round the back of a building.
Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and head right towards the “Les petits Mousses” nursery, which you go round to the right of.

(2) Continue along the street past the buildings and turn left to pass close to the Manoir de Kermoysan.
Cross a road, go through a barrier (sign prohibiting motorised vehicles) and continue along this steep tarmac path until you reach a crossroads.

No signposting

(3) Continue down this same path, ignoring the signposted route which turns right. At the bottom, just before the buildings, look out for a post on the left bearing the GR®® markings.

GR®® White and Red

Turn left onto this stony, downhill path and arrive at a fork opposite a children’s play area. Head left uphill.

(4) After about 100 m, look out for a discreet dirt track leading down into this part of the woods. Turn left at the corner of the block of flats, pass the area designated for fire engines to turn round, go down this street (you can go through the area of young plantations on the left) and arrive at the allotments.

(5) At the gate, turn left and follow the path between the stream on your left and the allotments on your right to reach the large Ludugris roundabout. Turn left and arrive at the Route de Pont-l'Abbé.

Opposite the Crédit Mutuel de Bretagne, cross the road at the pedestrian crossing, enter the tunnel and, on emerging, continue straight ahead along Rue Yves Le Henaff, which leads to the towpath.

Turn left and follow the towpath along the Odet towards the town. Take care on this stretch, which is very busy with walkers, cyclists, joggers and other users.

Pass under the Poulguinan road bridge, built in 1972 to cross the Odet to the south of the town, and arrive at the Odet boat landing stage (view, on the opposite bank, of the Le Locmaria district with its Romanesque church and its former priory, now converted).

No signposting

(6) Leave the towpath and turn left onto Rue Madeleine de Pompéry; leave this almost immediately by turning right onto Rue Max Jacob, which runs alongside La Cité du Gaz, a former working-class district from the 1920s (note the identical style of the houses). At the small roundabout, turn right onto Avenue Miossec. Before reaching Route de Pont-l’Abbé, note opposite the buildings of the Lycée Technologique Jean Chaptal and, on the right, the large buildings housing the servers of the telephone operator Orange.

Turn right and head towards a roundabout, which you go round on the right to enter a one-way street opposite. Walk up this steep street and at the top, on the right, note two beautiful mansions: “Ange Gabriel” and “Sant Mikaël”. Turn right into Rue Camille Valaux, continuing uphill. At the pedestrian crossing, cross the road to enter Impasse des Justices. Go down a flight of steps in several sections to reach a green space.

Turn left and head towards Lycée Chaptal, going round the "Les Colverts" youth residence.

At the junction with Avenue des Oiseaux, take a short detour to the right to go down past a discreet wash house, then continue.

(7) Turn right into Rue Bernard de Parades. Turn right between the two buildings to walk anti-clockwise around a stormwater basin crossed by a stream. At the end, turn right onto the path that climbs through a wooded area before rejoining the street you left earlier. Follow it to the right to complete a circular route (beautiful mansions) and continue along Allée du Pays de Galles, which continues to the right as a path.

(8) At the junction, near a street lamp, turn right then left at the barrier. Pass under the bridge of the old Quimper-Pont-l’Abbé railway line (planned as a greenway) and head up the wide path called Allée de Kerlan Vras. At the first crossroads, turn right and follow the wide path from which you can see the old railway line. After a descent, the path continues via a wide flight of 74 steps.
At the top, turn left and follow the path behind the houses. At the end, head down to the left along a winding path that descends to the wide path before the staircase. This section is a bit tricky as there are many paths criss-crossing each other. Retrace your steps and take a new path on the right which climbs diagonally and joins the tarmac lane, which you follow downhill for about ten metres.

(9) Turn right, leaving the tarmac path, and take the dirt track that runs along the hillside below the houses. Continue generally westwards. When you see a footbridge, go down to the left to cross it, then turn right onto the wide path.
At the end, on the left, begin a steep climb up a wide flight of 71 steps to reach the plateau. Turn left and follow a lovely path overlooking the woods and running along the back of the houses. Follow this path, cross a bridge over the disused railway line and arrive at the end of Rue Louis Simon. Continue along Allée André Derrien, which leads to the swimming pool car park, passing to the right of the Sports Hall (S/E).

Notes

Please note: this semi-urban route features several staircases, some of which are quite steep.
Finding your way around the Bois d'Amour isn’t always easy as there are many intersecting paths. Always stick to the ones that run behind the houses.
