Nice parking area in Bonnac at the start, with a first view of the Ariège.
(S/E) With your back to the bridge, walk up the main street of Bonnac (Rue du Moulin) for about 200 metres.
(1) Turn right onto Rue des Jardins to reach the church.
(2) Cross the bridge and start climbing the tarmac road to Castella, then take the first path on the right along the Ariège.
(3) At the three-way junction, turn right to follow the Ariège.
(4) Begin the climb, which starts with a few steps and continues with the only difficult part of the route (about 300 metres of fairly steep terrain). The path leads you to a barrier.
(5) Go through it and turn right immediately afterwards (look carefully at the ground, as the path is not very visible at the beginning). Descend into a small valley (there is a fragile bridge at the bottom) and climb up the other side to join a path at the edge of a field. After reaching the small tarmac road, turn left and follow it. Leave the climb to the hamlet of Le Freiche on your right, as well as another road on your right at an elevation of 376 metres. Continue for another 300 metres on this same road, passing a large house, and you will see a wooden ramp with a few steps on your right.
(6) Leave the road at this point and turn right into the woods, following a beautiful descent through the trees until you reach a T-junction.
(7) Turn right onto a path through the undergrowth, cross three footbridges before reaching the busy road to Bonnac at elevation 325.
(8) Turn left onto the road. Be careful! Do not walk on the road, as visibility is poor. Enter Bonnac and cross through the village.
Look at the castle on your right and find the first fork in the road.
(1) Continue straight ahead and return to the car park near the bridge over the Ariège (S/E).
