Park in the car park at the Massiac Tourist Information Centre.
(S/E) Set off to the right along Rue du Beal, pass under the stone bridge spanning the stream, then take Rue Marchande. Walk past Saint-André Church, turn left into Rue Albert Chalvet, then right into Rue Jean Rieuf, followed by a left into Rue d’Espinchal. At the top of this street, veer right then immediately left. Walk past a fountain and continue until you reach the edge of the A75 motorway.
(1) Walk alongside it on the left along a dirt track and head down to the left to reach the cemetery.
(2) Turn right onto the dirt track and go under the motorway. Follow it alongside, then go under it again a few metres further on. At the end of the dirt track, at a barrier, turn left. Continue until you reach Rue du Colombier; turn left onto it, continue along Rue Vialle Chalet and reach the railway line.
(3) Cross the railway at the level crossing. Take the D909 on the right, taking care. Then turn left to head down alongside the farm’s low wall. When you reach a bridge, turn left and cross the Alagnon via the iron bridge. Follow the stream, pass through the hamlet of Ouche and, a few metres further on, join the Ruisseau Prats des Rious.
(4) Follow it along its right bank until you reach a crossroads at the edge of the woods.
(5) Turn left onto this path and enter the woods to begin the climb. Continue through the Ravin du Bois d’Hubert. Shortly afterwards, emerge from the woods and reach the junction with the D21 road at the car park for the archaeological site.
(6) Turn right onto the road for about a hundred metres, then leave it to turn right onto the footpath, which will soon take you to Bussac.
(7) Turn left, then rejoin the D21; turn right onto it for a few metres, then cross over. Continue the climb until you reach a water reservoir at a place called Les Presses Longues. Carry on south-west and cross the Praluit plateau before reaching a T-junction (signposted).
(8) Turn left towards Château d’Aurouze (yellow markings). Reach the hamlet of Le Fayet.
(9) Turn left, then right, following the yellow markings. Walk along the edge of the Bois de Cours. Then turn left into the woods and follow a few hairpin bends to reach the Cours district at the entrance to Massiac.
(10) Turn right onto Avenue Jean Moulin, then straight on into Rue Jacques Chaban Delmas. Cross to the right over the green footbridge over the Alagnon to reach the car park at the Massiac Tourist Information Centre (S/E).
