Description of the walk

Car park at the Salle des Fêtes at the entrance to Estaing.

(S/E) From the car park, turn left onto the main street and head towards the Tourist Office. Turn left up Rue Bélières, then take Rue du Barry. Walk past the presbytery (the house with a tower). Head down to the right along a narrow path with steps to the old bridge over the Coussane. Cross the bridge and follow Rue du Pont to the left. Continue straight on along the small road leading to Combayre. Walk past the fish farm and rejoin the Coussane. Cross the river.

(1) Turn onto the Chemin de la Prade opposite. Walk up the hillside (leaving the Chemin des Gasses on your left) and then head back down to an old barn (1882). Carry on along the pastures to the derelict farm at La Prade, then reach Tabust, overlooking the Caussane. Turn left onto the path running alongside the farm, continue along the path towards the Coussane and leave the path leading down to the “Pont de Tabust” on your right.

(2) Take the path on the left to climb back up through the woods onto the plateau, then follow a service track lined with conifers. Pass under the high-voltage power lines twice.

(3) 200m after the first house, turn left onto a farm track leading to Annat (near the “métier à ferrer” church; in the village, there is a house with a front door resting on a frame shaped like a ship’s hull).

(4) Leave Annat, turning left towards the south onto the D167. Take the small road leading down to La Chantellerie and then to La Croix Marie (2.5 km).

(5) At La Croix Marie, turn left onto the path leading to Le Combayre. Cross the Liacouze, then return to the junction you passed on the way there.

(1) Turn right, cross the Coussane and follow the same route as on the way there (S/E).

Done this Thursday, setting off at 10 am. The whole route was in the shade. A lovely walk. The route has been altered near the hamlet of Trabust. Head to the right and, shortly afterwards, be sure to turn sharply left to head up to Annat.

A lovely, rejuvenating spot. A walk well worth doing as the setting is so perfect, and thanks to the organiser. One small suggestion I might make is perhaps to extend the walk so that the return leg is on a dirt track rather than tarmac, as walking along the road for several kilometres isn’t ideal, but it’s doable – just be careful ⚠️ 🙏✌️

A lovely walk. However, there’s too much road between Annat and La Croix Marie
