Fombillou Legends Trail

When Nayrac was still just a Roman farm, a Gallo-Roman named Bilius owned a fountain and gave it his name: Fond-Bilius, known today as Fombillou. This story is only the beginning of the legend. Walking along this hiking trail is like stepping back in time... and remembering the myths and legends of yesteryear. Trail closed during hunting season.

Description of the walk

When you arrive in the hamlet of Fombillou, park your car at the side of the road: there is very little traffic and plenty of spaces available.

(S/E) Begin the hike by following the road out of the hamlet.

(1) Take the wide path on the right at the cross decorated with cherubs and continue to the three-way junction.

(2) Take the flat track on the right and continue to the end.

(3) Continue straight ahead on the path and descend for about 50 metres to enjoy a superb view of the Lot valley.

(4) Turn back.

(3) Follow the path on the left marked "Trail d'Aqui". This path is relatively narrow and sometimes steep. Feel free to stop and admire the views of the Lot Valley, the Golinhac dam, etc. Along the way, several signs invite you to discover local legends: the legend of the wolves, the legend of the plague victims. Continue along this single track path, which leads back to a fork in the road.

(5) Continue straight ahead for about 300 metres. Then leave the path and turn left to discover the real-fake dolmen of Fombillou, located about ten metres away.

(6) Return to the route and continue until you reach a 90° right-hand bend.

(7) Continue straight ahead to see the Gachou waterfall. Turn back and continue on the left.

(7) On your left, leave the path (barely ten metres) to discover the real-fake dolmen of Fombillou.

(8) At the end of the path, turn right onto the tarmac road and take the first path on the left. Walk past the old Gachou mill and continue along the path that climbs up to the hamlet of Fombillou (S/E).

Worth a visit

The steep path plunges you into the vegetation of broom, trees and shrubs.

Gaps in the landscape offer unmissable views: don't hesitate to stop and admire the Lot as it winds its way through the valley.

The intertwining branches covered with moss open the door to your imagination. You will be ready to enter the world of local legends: the legend of the wolves, that of the plague victims...

Further on, you can discover a "real-fake dolmen" and finally let yourself be lulled by the song of the Gachou waterfall.
