As in 99% of cases, arrival on the island of Capri is by sea at the port of Marina Grande. Take the funicular near the landing stage to reach Capri Town and Piazza Umberto I, located just next to the funicular exit (or walk up following the signposted pedestrian route.
(S) Take Via Lungano and, after about 100 metres, turn right onto Via Sopramonte.
(1) After about 300 metres, at a junction resembling a small square (bar, mini-market), turn left onto the uphill Via Tiberia; 40 metres further on, take the opportunity to visit the charming church of San Michele alla Croce and its lovely garden.
(2) Return to Via Tiberia; before the restaurant Lo Sfizio, turn right onto Via Tamborio and notice the shift to a more residential atmosphere.
(3) Follow the road as it curves gently until you reach the T-junction with Via Arco Naturale, where you turn left.
(4) At Le Grotelle restaurant, take a quick detour to see the Arco Naturale.
(5) Return to Le Grotelle.
(4) Take the Pizzolungo coastal path on the left, which descends via steps.
(6) After a lovely descent and a stop at the Matormania Cave, the path winds its way past magnificent viewpoints up to the one at Tragara (don’t miss the view of Villa Malaparte, known as the setting for the film Contempt, and the Faraglioni rocks). Arrive at the Tragara viewpoint.
(6) Head back up towards Capri town centre and Piazza Umberto I via Via Tragara.
(S) Follow the signs for the pedestrian return route to the pier, which starts just outside the funicular station. A gentle 15-minute walk downhill takes you to the pier (E).
