The Montrognon Circuit

Résistance car park next to the town hall.

(S/E) Take the street running alongside the car park on the left, pass Place du Mas and go down Rue du Montrognon on the right. Cross the bridges using the left-hand pavement. At the roundabout, cross the two lanes on the left (pedestrian crossings).

(1) Take a path leading down to the left and join a wide track, which you follow to the right (you can visit the Moulin de la Tranchère, gate on the left). At the end of the lake (redevelopment project), continue straight ahead on the wide path (along the hemp drying racks) then take the path opposite that climbs between the hedges (on the right, the old Fontaine des Chasseurs). Continue straight ahead along the path through the meadows and pass several bends (views over Clermont and the Limagne).

(2) When you reach the reservoir, take the main path on the left, passing in front of a winegrower’s barrel (junction with the Chemin de Saint-Jacques). At the four-way crossroads, take the path on the right, then immediately left, and finally straight on to the right via a winding path to climb to the top of the Chomontel hill (360° panorama).

(3) Descend the hill on the other side to reach a wide path, which you take to the right. You will then reach a tarmac road.

(4) Take the path on the right and, between two fields, follow the one on the left and continue left again until you reach the first houses of Romagnat.

(5) At the road, head up to the right for 100 m and turn left onto a wide path.
At the junction with a road, take it to the right for about 50 m, then turn right again until you reach the bend in the road.

(6) Take the stony path opposite, then at the next Fork in the road continue to the right. Alongside a building, follow the main path to the right until you reach the roundabout.

(1) Cross the bridge immediately, using the pavement on the right, then turn left.
At the sign for Rue de Gergovie, a marker (on the right) indicates the garden path, which you follow to Rue Cocquelut. Take this road on the right to the end, then return to the car park (S/E).
