Description of the walk

Start at Avenue de la Vialle, car park just after the cultural centre on the right.

(S/E) Take Avenue de la Vialle towards Avenue Jean-Baptiste Marrou. Cross at the pedestrian crossing and continue on the left.

(1) Turn right onto Rue de la Vallée de Préguille. Go up this street to the top, continue along the path that runs along the wall at the edge of the housing estate and continue for about 250 metres.

(2) Turn right for a few dozen metres, then take the path on the left. Continue straight ahead until you reach the forest path of the fitness trail.

(3) Turn left and go uphill to a pumping station. At the bend, turn right onto the path and continue straight ahead.

(4) At the crossroads, turn right and continue until you reach a signpost (see Practical Information).

(5) Leave the main path and follow the trail on the right that winds between the small oak trees. After 250 metres, follow the markings that turn left, leaving the main trail. You will arrive at a rest area on the right and the Rocher de la Croze with a view of the Thèdes stream gorges.

From there, follow the markings to discover a wild, rugged area, staying on the path. Do not venture onto the rocks (precipices and risk of falling rocks). Among all the rocks in this chaos, you will discover the Rocher du Diable and the Rocher du Géant with their granite blocks shaped like balls and cubes: the Tors.

Continue along the path, following the markings. At the top of the stairs, take the path on the right. At the bottom of the descent, pass a rest area on the right. Continue along the path, climbing back up to the one you left earlier, but a little further upstream.

(6) Take the path downhill on the right. Ford the Ruisseau de Thèdes stream. Go back up following the path on the left. From there, on the left for about 200 metres, you will see a series of rock formations: the Rochers de Champeaux. Continue along the path, passing the bench with a view of Boisséjour, until you reach another signpost.

(7) Leave the main path and take the path on the right to the Rocher des Bénitiers. Don't pass by without discovering the cupules at the top of the rock, which spill into each other in a semicircle. A true enigma, a place of worship and legends...

Turn right around the rock and descend into the woods to find the fitness trail. Turn left. After 150 metres on the right, you will see Rocher de Gargantua. Continue downhill to a crossroads at a hairpin bend.

(8) Leave the forest path and turn right onto the path that runs alongside the Artière. After 150 metres, you will see the Bourgailloux Rocks on your left. Continuing to the right, you will come to Gargantua Rock with its vertical face, popular with climbers. Pass a rest area on the banks of the stream and continue along the path until you reach another signpost.

(9) Take the steps on the right and descend the winding path to return to the Artière and the first houses. Continue along the path and then the street on the right until you reach the small bridge in the hamlet of Préguille. Cross the bridge on the right and follow the signs to the left, which take you along a path between the houses.

At the last houses, take the wide path opposite. After the bridge, follow Avenue de Préguille to the left, then Rue des Peupliers to the left. Continue until you reach the stop sign on Avenue Jean Baptiste Marrou. Turn right, then cross at the pedestrian crossing to return to the car park (S/E).

Route completed several times in different seasons. Very pleasant and educational route.
Between 8 and 9, a landslide blocks access and no detour is offered. However, the passage is not insurmountable.

A wonderful discovery. Done in good weather. Excellent signage and information. Remarkable safety measures.
A hike where you learn by visually discovering "geological" history and its upheavals. Thank you to the organisers of this association.

Many thanks for this hike, which we did on a very hot day. We really appreciated the cool shade provided by the trees. Not recommended in winter as the terrain can be slippery at that time of year. It is best to follow the route using GPS coordinates.
We thoroughly enjoyed this hike.

Great route, but it should not be attempted at this time of year due to frequent ice along the entire route. Please indicate this so that hikers are aware of the risk.
